The fine food is overwhelmed by the greedy prices. I had the smallest plate of mussels I've had anywhere in the world. altough the quality was good it did not match the hefty price tag. My 4 year old son had a small sandwich with one pice of bread and 3 prawns for £7.50!!! and he couldn't eat it because... more

When doing field work in NW Scotland 20 years ago I used to spend a few nights in a tent in order to afford a final night at this hotel. Times have changed but the hotel hasn’t and has been overtaken in quality and value for money by many hotels I stay in around Britain at a far lower room... more

This is not a place to come to if you like mod cons, 3-5star quality in terms of space, modern bathrooms, technology. Our room was OK, the bed was small- we are use to a kingsize, bathroom was small but clean and as others have said, no shower, just an attachment to connect onto the bath taps. It was OK... more

Have been coming to Ullapool for approx 10 years and need to visit at least once a year to maintain psychological well being! Always try to stay at the Ceilidh Place - love its quirkiness, residents lounge, open fires (worth a visit in winter), views, art, food, occasional musical evenings, overall ethos and individual character. Jean Urquhart is to be... more

Having stayed in several hotels, this must be one of the worst I've ever encountered, and I'm not a snob. Think inferior bunkhouse service at 5 star prices. Example: guests are expected to use bars of soap already used by other customers, and are regarded as aliens if they object to this. Apparently it's environmentally sound, and the 'policy' involves... more

We stayed here Summer 2007 having previously stayed in winter 2006: the conservatory was still leaking into buckets on the dinning rom floor during heavy rain... Overall we had a poor impression, the prices were up, the senior staff seemed unfriendly and the atmosphere generally a bit cold. Real shame as we had a really nice stay 18 months ago... more

The Ceilidh Place was recommended to us by a friend and after seeing the website we were keen to go. The truth is the place is dirty and overpriced - sticky tables, tatty furnishings, filthy glass in the rooflights over the conservatory and disinterested staff. The toilets were also dirty. We thought that the place must be trading now on... more

I had previously attended a wedding at the Ceilidh place and had enjoyed its quirky interior and art on display so decided to book a few nights despite the expensive room charge. Overall I have to say I was disappointed. Our room was musty and freezing cold when we arrived, the sheets were icey which made me wonder when it... more

We booked into the Ceilidh Place as a stopover before getting on the ferry to Stornoway, but ended up wishing we could have stayed longer. It was something of a surprise to find such a vibrant and buzzing place in quiet Ullapool. The rooms were comfortable and quiet, and the food in the restaurant excellent. There is a great little... more

Wife and I stayed here for one night on recommendations from two acquaintances. Paid nearly £60 ($120) per person!! for a small room with toilet and bath (no shower). The room had a number of plastic buckets which looked as if they were used to catch drips from the roof. When asked if there was a TV anywhere in the... more
