There's a fine line between quirkily, endearingly shabby and plain old run down & in need of a clean, and Ceilidh Place crosses that line. A leaking roof dripped water onto the dressing table in our room - "Yes, we know about that" !? - well get it fixed then!! This place could be wonderful, and I think probably was,... more

We found all the staff very helpful, polite and friendly. Our room was small but fresh and clean. There were a variety of books to borrow and read either in your room or in the lounge with the honesty bar. The lounge is very well set out with a lovely balcony to sit out on if the weather permits! We... more

A gem - like being at home - better in some ways! The most relaxing residents' lounge I know, with a hi-fi for residents' use and its own honesty-box kitchen with loads of choice. Great food and drink, with a choice of the cafe or restaurant, each marginally separated from the other but with their own distinct charm. Marvellous little... more

The Ceilidh Place has long had a reputation for quiet excellence. It goes from strength to strength. Excellent service at every level, fabulous food, comfortable bedrooms with enormous character, and that wonderful upstairs lounge with excellent library and artwork – there is no place like it. And the food! Fusion at its brghtest and best. Ane that's not to mention... more

Oh Dear! Dirty, damp, shabby rooms that would just about be acceptable in a bunkhouse charging less than £40. Nearly £150 a night for a double is pure greed and is an embarrasment to the many folks reliant on tourism in The Highlands. On the plus side the staff were pleasant and the food good, they coped well and I... more

I've worked in Ullapool a lot over the last 17 years involving frequent business trips there. It's also close enough to home for the occasional weekend run across for lunch. Up until this time it's been fine, with pleasant if relaxed service standards. The food has been good enough to keep me going back. An Ullapool run was called for... more

These are the facts - We have left 3 messges on the answer phone of this hotel (25th May, 27th May and 28th May) and to date not one has been returned. £140 for twin room B & B. The room we saw was not clean for example the sealant in the bathroom was grubby and the decor tired. For... more

The fine food is overwhelmed by the greedy prices. I had the smallest plate of mussels I've had anywhere in the world. altough the quality was good it did not match the hefty price tag. My 4 year old son had a small sandwich with one pice of bread and 3 prawns for £7.50!!! and he couldn't eat it because... more

When doing field work in NW Scotland 20 years ago I used to spend a few nights in a tent in order to afford a final night at this hotel. Times have changed but the hotel hasn’t and has been overtaken in quality and value for money by many hotels I stay in around Britain at a far lower room... more

This is not a place to come to if you like mod cons, 3-5star quality in terms of space, modern bathrooms, technology. Our room was OK, the bed was small- we are use to a kingsize, bathroom was small but clean and as others have said, no shower, just an attachment to connect onto the bath taps. It was OK... more
