A beautiful setting and a building of character. Situated about 1 mile from town and at the end of a long and winding drive, with bluebells growing round the trees, the setting was peaceful and attractive. We were greeted and shown to our room by a welcoming receptionist. The room was spacious and well equipped, though the flat screen TV... more

Stayed in this hotel for two nights. The location is beautiful but the grounds and building really need a lot of money spent on them. The drive is full of pot-holes and the 'sleeping policemen' need to have white lines re-painted. Public rooms and bedroom need to be up-dated and generally freshened up. I appreciate that this is probably not... more

Just back from 2 night stay B&B. Lovely old building, not what was expecting. Nice big driveway to hotel and lovely views of the hills. So peaceful and away from the main roads. Welcomed at reception and taken to our room by the receptionist, which we thought was a very nice touch. All the staff were very friendly and helpful... more

What a lovely place to stay. Went up on Bank Holiday Monday as my friend was getting married on the Tuesday, stayed for four nights. All the staff are fantastic and can't do enough for you (especially Linda). The rooms could do with a little up dating but its all part of the character of the place. The wedding reception... more

I took a few days out to go fishing around Scotland and found this hotel on the website. I also read the reviews on Trip Adviser. The hotel location and the grounds are superb. The hotel itself is in need of a bit of an update but their charges are reflective of this. At £45 per night B&B it was... more

Stayed with the hotel when traveling on business. Found the food mixed, with the staff very receptive. The owner's leave a lot to be desired, their sharp attitude and short manner are appalling!!!. If you want somewhere with average food, good hired staff (who are paid to be nice to you!!) then stay here. If however you want somewhere decent... more

Very helpful staff, great food, good location. 15 min walk into Castle Douglas. Room clean and tidy, fittings could do with a bit of maintainance. But at £75 per nt with 3 course meal for 2 and breakfast what more could you ask. more

Like some of the other reviewers I will not be returning. The first room I was shown to smelt of disinfectant as if they were trying to cover something up. When I mentioned this I was quickly changed to a better room, which made me feel that because I was a solo traveller they had tried to fob me off... more

The hotel is situated along a nice driveway overlooking open country the exterior is a little unkempt but as with a lot of old properties its difficult to say how you could improve it and retain its character. On our arrival the reception was ocuppied by two noisey children who were joined by a harrased looking lady [the owner]?we were... more
