Friendly hotel with nice dinning room, but still seems to function as a local pub in the evenings. Bedroms noisy facing on to main road, and need some work to justify prices. more

My wife & i stayed at this hotel in ROOM 22 from 20 TO 24 APRIL 2009 inclusive & were very disappointed with the cleanliness & room service for the following reasons:- 1) Shower head water outlet holes covered in black mould. 2) Door frame to shower cubicle especially at bottom covered in black mould. 3) Water very slow to... more

We had a recent self catering stay in Castle Douglas and ate at the Douglas Arms hotel twice during our stay with our children aged 7 and 9. The food was fresh, home cooked, good portions of standard pub fare- steak or chicken pies, roasts, breaded fish and chips etc. with the usual offering for children but also an option... more

My wife & I decided to go to The Douglas Arms for a meal whilst on holiday in Castle Douglas, in June 2008. We ordered a drink and a starter which was fine. We both ordered home made macaroni as a main course. What we were served up looked and tasted exactly like Heinz tinned macaroni. We ate the chips... more

Sadly the Douglas Arms Hotel has fallen from its former granduer as Castle Douglas's foremost quality hotel, dining and bar facility to being no more than an "any port in a storm" compromise venue if there were nowhere else for the traveller or visitor to go. The Douglas Arms has undergone a number of modernisations and changes over recent years,... more

We stayed here for a week whilst touring Kirkcudbrightahire. The last time I had been to Scotland had been many years ago, when I stayed in Dundee. So this was for me like a first visit. I would highly recommend this hotel, the staff were friendly helpful always smiling. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We chose to stay... more

This hotel was everything we needed when we recently toured Dumfries and Galloway. Warm, clean-certainly no evidence of the cobwebs mentioned in a previous review-and decent food. Certainly not pretentious, just good value for money. We had 3 nights dinner bed and breakfast for under £200. Staff were all friendly, always had a civil word for everyone, and helpful with... more

If a relaxing weekend, at a nice hotel, with friendly service is what you are looking for, this is definitely not the hotel for you. The staff and the owners know nothing of looking after their guests or dealing with issues that may arise. In fact the last thing they seem to care about is the customer. Myself and my... more
