Stayed here at new year with friends from as far away as Australia. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Particularly Heather. The lounge was nice and comfy and cosy. We only ate one night but food was good. Basic but we'll cooked and plenty of it. They also supplied a lovely buffet free of charge for us as... More

The Imperial is brilliant. The staff were fantastic and nothing asked was any problem to Patricia and her staff. Heather was unbelievably brilliant. When you get one of the staff travelling for an hour on New Years day to get a keg of beer for us, that sums up the brilliant and homely attitude that we had during our stay.... More

Arrived in Castle Douglas for a few days break, first time on my own having always travelled with my late husband. Was feeling very vulnerable, but was greeted by this lovely lady at The Imperial who took me under her wing, made sure l knew best places to visit. Also, took time to sit with me early evening. Thank you,... More

We stayed here for a long weekend and found the staff to be friendly and helpful the room was a good size and had en-suite it was tidy and clean and served our purpose. We booked as b and b but because of inclement weather we dined in house and found the choice of meals of good quality and good... More

First the positive, there's only one. It was cheap. But cheap should not mean bad. I can't really think of any real other positives. The hotel is more a pub with rooms, and a noisy pub at that, with single-glazed windows. Our room overlooked the smoking area which got noisy as you would expect, meaning we had to close the... Nearly chose the 'poor' rating, but the soup and roll were good as was the liver and onions. The green vegetables were greatly overcooked, but then it's the fashion in these parts to murder their veg it seems. We only had lunch so cannot judge accommodation. The manageress (?) wears her glasses over her mouth and tells off the staff in... More

Had the misfortune of having to stay here for a night as everywhere else locally was booked. The hotel smells damp, the bedrooms are incredibly shabby and in dire need of an upgrade. The carpets have to be seen to be believed - ingrained dirt and stained around the toilet bowls. Breakfast very limited and the guy serving got our... More

We went for 2 nights in May 2014 - group of us mountain biking at the nearby 7 Stanes. Easy to find - loads of off road parking at back Rooms very clean - pretty basic and could do with new mattresses at some point soon! Breakfast was superb and the service was top notch - friendly and nothing too... More
