After arriving for my meal and giving my name I was told there was no record of my booking and was treated like a liar and made to feel quite small I did eventually get a table the food was very good and I had a nice whiskey but still left with a bitter taste in my mouth not a... More

Dear Mr S I would like to apologise for the manner in which you were treated by a certain member of the staff. This is definitely not the manner I expect from staff and stress to them that the Customer is always right and must be treated in the appropriate way. I am pleased you enjoyed your food and drinks... We didn't eat here as we'd just eaten before we found the pub, which was a shame. The dining room looked lovely and cosy and well set out. We just had drinks, there were a couple of real ales to choose from. An old pub, very cosy and welcoming. We sat in the bar area in comfortable big easy chairs... More

First visit to the Ploughman since the new owners took over - very pleasantly surprised. Food and service were excellent - very good value for money. The dining room retains its old worlde charm and is comfortable, roomy and clean. We only looked in for a meal so can't judge the standard of the hotel side. We'll be back!

I went in with a friend for dinner and found that the small menu had something for everyone and compliments to the chef as the food was wonderful! I sincerely recommend the Ploughman Burger and chips. A lovely, relaxed atmosphere with welcoming staff. Keep it up :-)

Called on the off chance and was delighted with the overall experience. They fit the five of us in at no notice and gave us fantastic service along with excellent food. When I went to pay I was pleasantly surprised at how low the bill was. This place is a wee gem that comes highly recommended.

We visited this pub/restaurant by chance on the first evening of our stay at Newton Stewart. The menu was excellent (including the Specials Board for Fishy Friday!), the prices were reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. It was not large but was nicely, traditionally decorated. The staff were friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and returned... More

Called in for lunch - on the off chance they were open after 2pm. They were - and we had a really lovely meal. Staff so friendly and helpful. Traditional inn with nice atmosphere, decor and furniture. The dining room (without the bar) is really quite impressive. Couldn't fault the Ploughman at all. Will be back before we head home... The Ploughman Hotel has recently changed hands so we decided to try out the food. I had battered haddock which was absolutely huge, thick and very fresh. The batter was really crispy. It was served with big chunky chips and I asked for coleslaw rather than the mushy peas. I didn't much like it being served on "pretend" newspaper on... More
