Called in for lunch - on the off chance they were open after 2pm. They were - and we had a really lovely meal. Staff so friendly and helpful. Traditional inn with nice atmosphere, decor and furniture. The dining room (without the bar) is really quite impressive. Couldn't fault the Ploughman at all. Will be back before we head home... More

The Ploughman Hotel has recently changed hands so we decided to try out the food. I had battered haddock which was absolutely huge, thick and very fresh. The batter was really crispy. It was served with big chunky chips and I asked for coleslaw rather than the mushy peas. I didn't much like it being served on "pretend" newspaper on... More

This hotel has seen better days but the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Staying in October meant we were the only people staying. The bar closed at nine o'clock which was very disappointing but they were no customers. Breakfast was nice but no cooked breakfast offered. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and the room was... More

I booked in May for an overnight stay for 8 at the end of August. I called tonight to confirm the booking and they had no record of it. That's twice this has happened to me in the same area. I cannot tell you how much this severely inconveniences me as we now have to find alternative accommodation in the... More

Stayed here for 1 night for a family occasion. Therefore didn't eat dinner here so can't comment on that. Price for a night was average - £60 for a double room and £45 for a single. Room was clean. Bedding was extremely cosy and comfortable. Kettle, iron and hairdryer in room. Only thing we missed which we could have done... More

My wife and I spent 3 nights here during the Wigtown Book Festival. This is a simple hotel, right in the middle of Wigtown and I cannot recommend the friendly service high enough. A bit old fashioned in decor (I really like the engravings of 'Sheep in the Snow') but up-to-date with welcome. I shall make it my stop again.

This hotel has changed hands recently and been given a facelift, both outside and in. The rooms are of a contemporary design, very comfortable and good value. The staff and the owners alike are very friendly and helpful and it was nice to talk to the locals, sitting in the bar. We had a few lovely meals in The Granary... More
