I recommend this hotel as a friendly, comfortable hotel, typical of small market towns in Scotland. Both the town and the hotel clearly have history, so don't be put off by the slightly tired appearance of either, and instead look forward to finding out about them. I found the hotel was warm, with a comfortable and very clean room and... More

I can honestly say that the Bruce hotel is a wonderful place to eat, though the waiter/barman was unbelievably rude, and constantly on his phone when service was required, tut tut, I don't really remember the bar man's name but I think it was Rob, due to the fact the very obtuse head man kept shouting it across the room... just spent our second new year celebrations at this hotel. We traveled on a coach party, upon arrival we were greeted by friendly manager and staff, who sorted out our luggage and delivered to our rooms while we had tea or coffee with cake and scone's. Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff, who made our stay... More

An excellent manager and staff, nothing was to much trouble The outside of the hotel does not do it justice, My only problem was that my room was too hot and I had to have window open, this was due to very mild weather (not expected in Dec)and not the hotels fault

love this place, the staff, the rooms and.....the food. Brilliant. Its an old building so expect some noise, but this doesn't detract from its charm, merely adds to it. Great location for nearby fantastic countryside

Hotel is a bit tired, but the room was comfortable and clean, the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food excellent. All in all a very enjoyable stay and good value for money. Hopefully the fabric will be given a little TLC in the future.

2 night stop-over. Nice room on the first floor, a colleague had a top floor room which he said was a bit chilly? Nice bar area, the weekly quiz night gets a lot of attention. We didn't do the quiz (much to the manager / landlords surprise) but sat and watched the arrangements unfold! We had a bar meal one... More

My husband and I stayed for one night and really enjoyed our stay. The room was large and very clean and the staff were all very pleasant and nicely spoken. We had a lovely Sunday roast meal and would definitely book this hotel again

We spent two nights here and at first I didn't like it very much. Room 21...very clean but the bath lets the room down as does the electric chandelier style ceiling light with more bits missing than working...not very endearing first impressions! Walk along the high street and there's lots of competition and yes they too have their own issues!... More
