We booked this hotel for 1 night as a stop over to travel from Stranraer the next day. The room was very spacious and clean and had everything you needed. We ate in the hotel also and the food was o.k. We paid £70 per room for 1 night which included breakfast. I would recommend this hotel as it was... more

Travelling by motorcycles en route for a tour of Southern Ireland, we encountered heavy rainfall for two hours before heading into Newton Stewart, close enough to Stranraer and the ferry in the morning. Entering speculatively the foyer of the Bruce dripping wet, we expected to be turfed out onto the grey, damp street. Au contraire, "bikers, come in, come in!"... more

Hotel was warm and inviting from the second I walked in to the reception area. Room was light and clean, large with plenty of space. Bathroom was large and clean with good working and powered shower. Great view of the countryside from the bathroom too! Very comfortable bed and digital flat screen TV Food was excellent price and really, really... more

Stayed in a family room - interconnecting rooms - excellent -enough room even with a 3yr old and a 1yr old. Cosy, clean and welcoming. Food was excellent - of a very high standard and while we dined early due to ages of kids we never felt that we were putting anyone out and the staff were good with the... more

We arrived only to find that the double four poster we had booked was now a twin! The helpful but confused receptionist was quickly replaced by the excellent Hotel Manager, Callum. In minutes we were located in room 20, no four poster but a large twim room with magnificent views of the sundrenched hills. It was the week of the... more

Service at the Bruce Hotel was excellent; friendly and attentive, but without being obtrusive. Food was also very good indeed. The location is perfect for a variety of activities, particularly outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling, fishing and golf (as listed on the website). We will certainly return to this area, and will happily make the Bruce our base again. more

Extremely welcoming and bike-friendly. Fab location for 7 Stanes and Sustrans Route 7 (Glasgow-Carlise) runs within 300m of the front door. Mike and the staff of the Bruce are working hard to build up this place's reputation for great service. We think they are doing very well at this - nothing was too much trouble and I hope to go... more

Sue and Mike are extremely welcoming and helpful and their staff as well. The hotel is being updated but, unfortunately, our rooms h were the last to be tackled. The food, apart from breakfast, is disappointing but, apparently, a new chef has arrived. Newton Stewart is not an attractive town but it stands in wonderful countryside. more
