stopping in area and needed somewhere to eat. The place only had two other people eating. Menu extensive fro a pub and suited all tastes. I had chicken done in a Stilton sauce. My companion had lamb. Meal was cooked nice and well presented with fresh veg on the side. Would go again.

We were visiting the Dark Skies Park and needed a place to stay that would allow dogs...this seemed to be the only one in the area! The hotel is small, rather dated, but friendly, reasonably clean and comfortable. The breakfast was second to none though! Cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast, full Scottish with haggis! Excellent and set us up for the... More

A basic hotel with friendly staff. Rooms and general decor of the hotel a bit shabby in need of updating along with the bathroom. However clean and comfortable. Evening food good homemade menu. A fine overnight hotel at a reasonable price.

Stayed at The Bruce Thursday 23rd April and Sunday 26th April 2015. Stayed similar time last year. We travelled to the Cookstown motor cycle road racing in Ireland. The hotel is ideal for the ferry. The hotel is clean and tidy and the staff are excellent. Our room was spacious, lots of room for motor cycle leathers helmet etc. The... More

Stayed and ate at the hotel 3 nights over Easter. Lovely big room. Food great. Breakfast was perfect - one of the best I've ever had. The archway into the car park is VERY narrow; had the parking sensors on my Insignia beeping like mad.

We stayed here for one night after finishing a punishing 31Km ride around Kiroughtree mountain bike trail. This hotel is really close by. Staff were really great. Rooms were clean and cosy. Hearty food and a good selection of beers available. Hotel is mountain bike friendly. Would recommend to all riders out there who are looking for a good stop... More

My husband and I have tried many of the hotels/restaurants in the area for Sunday lunch. I have to say The Bruce is by far the best. We have eaten there several Sundays over the past few months and haven't been disappointed in the quality of the Sunday lunch. The meat is top class accompanied by homemade Yorkshire puddings. We... My partner and myself stayed at The Bruce last week (05-07/03/2015) The staff were pleasant and very informative, our room was clean and comfortable. We only ate at the Hotel once in the evening but the food was lovely. We had particularly gone up to stargaze in Galloway Forest Park but the weather was overcast, when telling this to the... More

I recommend this hotel as a friendly, comfortable hotel, typical of small market towns in Scotland. Both the town and the hotel clearly have history, so don't be put off by the slightly tired appearance of either, and instead look forward to finding out about them. I found the hotel was warm, with a comfortable and very clean room and... More
