12 of us came to celebrate a family anniversary= Ednam House was our first choice and we were not let down !!==All of the staff were most professional and welcoming and dealt with the wide ranging requests of diners from 7 to 70 years old-- the dining room is spacious and clean with one of the best views in town... The only thing in Ednam's House favour is it's location. Apart from that it was a huge disappointment! It needs a total refurb as falling apart. Interior paintwork mucky & chipped. Furniture scratched & the whole feel of the hotel is tatty & depressing. We had booked a downstairs 'river view' & what a joke for a room! Small with... More

Our first impressions of the hotel were quite good. The driveway is quite impressive and from a distance the hotel looks nice. The gardens at the back of the hotel are excellent with lovely views over the river Tweed. That is where the good points finish. The interior of the hotel is a disgrace with old tired furniture and even more tired surroundings.... More

This is one of the most disappointing reviews I have written. Ednam House is lovely, it sits right on the river bank with great views and has gorgeous gardens. You drive into the frontage area and it looks amazing, lots of parking. Then in through the imposing front doors to reception, where the staff are very helpful and friendly. We... More

Firstly the food was good but then everthing went bad. The hotel in general was tatty, chairs with no springing left in them and other furniture stained and scratched, same with the skirtings. I just felt that the place was dirty, not vintage or chic. Now to the room, number 10. How disappointing was this. Hardly enough room to move... More

We have just had a brilliant 3 days at Ednam house, Kelso. Location superb, room spacious as was bathroom with lots of snowy white towels. A little renovation is needed but is planned by the owners. The food was outstanding: both fish and meat varied and well cooked and delicious starters and sweets. The service was good at all times.... More

Just spent a week end in Kelso, the town is a typical Scottish Border town, interesting with some good quality shops, pubs and cafes. We tried a couple of hotels before the Ednam House Hotel, they were all fully booked. The only rooms left at Ednam were " Classic Rooms" (Doubles) at £195 B&B. We needed somewhere to stay and... Visited this evening for a meal, lovely receptionist said she had a spare table, with a brand new menu ? We have visited, and stayed 4 times now, jimmy was very welcoming in the bar as normal, but also same old tatty furniture and I don't mean antiques style, I mean chairs with bottom hanging down, tables scruffy and oh my skirting boards and... We booked ourselves into the Ednam House at short notice when work required us to overnight in the area at short notice. Margaret and her colleagues could not have been more helpful; happily laying on soup and sandwiches for us because we were arriving too late to have dinner. Margaret even sourced a toothbrush for me when I was caught... More

This hotel, family run for many generations ,is the last one I know in the Uk that has the unique personality of a one off establishment that is supremely comfortable , with world class food and whiskies ( including home smoked salmon from its river running by its glorious gardens ( The Tweed no less)that is not intimidating and very...
