A Christmas present from Judy, this night away came up trumps. A lovely room overlooking the courtyard, with comfortable bed, spacious wardrobe, swagged curtains, dressing table, marble fireplace.... The hotel itself beautifully situated on the Tweed and in the town too. Pre-dinner drinks in the bar, with log fire roaring. Dinner was simple but exceptionally good - smoked salmon, fillet... More

My wife and I (and our dog) stayed here for a nice weekend break in the Borders. Excellent service and value for money throughout. Particularly pleased that this is a dog-friendly hotel. The back of the building is stunning, looking out onto the river with expansive grounds where we could let our dog run about. Couple of our best times:-... More

A friend and I went for lunch here, when two of our favourite local venues were closed, after New Year. The hotel has new owners and we had high expectations. However the lunch menu was decidedly old fashioned in what it offered, and neither was it particularly appetising or well presented. We were told that there is a major refurbishment... More

The hotel has a stunning location, right on the river- hence its role as a premier fishing location. For those less interested in standing in cold water waving a rod in the air optimistically, the hotel offers a relaxed ambience, good food, friendly staff. Kelso itself is a pleasant Borders market town with a few interesting shops and some lovely... More

Lovely old hotel in the middle of Kelso. Excellent friendly staff, decent reasonably priced food, and welcoming fires. Our bedroom was a good size, in good order, with a supefb full length bath. Excellent for a gentle trip, with essy access to the Border countryside.

Stayed at this hotel after racing was cancelled. Needed an extra bed for our granddaughter which was provided in a comfortable but tired room. Nevertheless what would you rather have a spotlessly clean functional but tired room or a cramped modern room with poor housekeeping. Staff and food exemplary and you can see the beginnings of a programmed upgrade. Would... More

I stayed at this hotel on 7th. December whilst in Kelso whilst on business. The hotel is in a lovely setting through an arch just off the town centre with the rear looking onto the river Tweed. The reception area and main lounge are very traditional with real fires burning. However....my room No.24, was pretty shabby to say the least.The... More

Old fashioned in a good way. Service is efficient, friendly and unobtrusive. A wood fire and the house pet dog welcomes you as you enter the hotel. Several comfortable lounges to relax in. The building is a classical villa with wonderful plaster ceilings and fine views onto the Tweed. Bedrooms are furnished with high quality arts and crafts furniture (from... More

Had a good night here with warm welcome, three open fires available! Bedrooms are comfortable, request river view, well worth it in morning . Hotel is a good size and plenty of space to find peace if you want to read and relax. Also close to town centre and lovely back garden on riverside.

Charming hotel with friendly helpful staff. Old world with character rather than modern. Rooms were warm and comfortable and the slightly rambling style simply adds to the atmosphere. Beautiful views over the river and a lovely comfortable lounge with real fire and separate bar. Huge bath. Great breakfast!
