We had booked almost 12 months ahead for the final 4 nights of our fortnight in Scotland - chosen room, made dinner reservations the lot. On the morning we were due to leave our previous hotel in Skye my wife had been quite poorly with an allergic food reaction and I had to take her to the doctors. Before doing... more

Beautiful, meticulously maintained 17th century home. Dinner served [sort of] family style so we got to chat with some locals over canapes though sit privately at dinner then join again for after-dinner petit fours and drinks. Waited on hand and foot by the owner and staff - whose service lends understanding to the meticulous surroundings - we recommend being on... more

Beware readers! Many of these reviews of Ballachulish House and Ballachulish Hotel obviously confuse the two. "House" is an historic country house and "Hotel" is an older, baronial style hotel. The two are quite close to each other but are totally different. Example--there is no "front desk" at House, you simply walk into the entry hall of a home. So,... more

This hotel is in a superb location and we were really looking forward to our stay here. We arrived on a sunny afternoon and our host recommended we book for dinner at 8pm. We happliy enjoyed a round of golf at their golf course and arrived back at the hotel with 20 mins to spare before dinner, only to be... more

We stayed one night in Ballachulish House on our way to Skye. It was no doubt the nicest and most elegant place we stayed in Scotland, even though it was not the most expensive. We had the room with the pink walls shown on the Web site. A very pretty room, spacious and with wonderful views out over the grounds.... more

We had a dissapointing stay due to the snobbish attitude by the owner who made our party feel most unwelcome. She felt we were too noisy but given that she had taken a booking for seven people, she should have expected a little noise with everybody chatting. The hotel ran out of most drinks which we ordered including champagne and... more

Right from booking the room through to the welcome at reception and the service at dinner that staff at Ballachulish House were friendly and helpful. We stayed one night after a long trip round the coast to avoid a snow-blocked road. We instantly relaxed and travelled the short distance to the shared swimming pool and fitness centre in Glen Coe.... more

I had the pleasure of staying at Ballachulish House on my way back from Sky. Having read many of the reviews about the food etc I am happy to say it exceeded all of my expectations. The charm of the place, the furnishings and finally the cuisine were as good as I've ever had among the best places in Scotland.... more

I think the US visitor is maybe to big to fit into a perfectly normal bathroom, fine for normal people !??? Utterly confused by the previous review . We visited in December 2004. the welcome was excellent. The house ,built in 1640 an absolute period piece , restored sympathetically by the owners. The views may be limited by window size,... more

We asked for the best room and required it to be quiet with a view. We also stipulated the bathroom was important to us and we wanted luxury. The price was 188 pounds a night(approximately $380.00 U.S.) Though the room was nice, it certainly was not worth the money. The room was worth 70-90 pounds in my opinion. The room... more
