My husband and I and another couple booked 4 nights at Ballachulish House approximately one year ago.We looked forward to our trip all year.We were due to arrive on Monday 20th April 2009 at Ballachulish House. On the Thursday night prior to our arrival we came home to an answerphone message which said "I am calling from Ballachulish House to... more

I booked a romantic weekend for my my wife and myself in September 07 for January 08 by telephone. I was then shocked to find that they immediately charged the whole amount to my c.card, not a deposit, the WHOLE amount. In protest I called only to be told that this was a condition on their web site, but they... more

This place should only be visited in the late spring/early summer . When we arrived it was cold- very cold. The rooms were not warm in spite of a tiny little space heater going full blast. When we commented on how cold the rooms were we were given another space heater to replace the one we had- I had just... more

We lived in Scotland for eight years, go back for a holiday each year, and we have stayed in just about every notable country house hotel in Scotland. Our stay at this hotel was our worst experience ever. We paid £220 for our room, and £47.50 each for dinner. Although the room rate is half of that we had paid... more

This is a nice place - for the right people. We booked as a family of 4 (two kids ages 10 and 13). When we booked they were very aware we had children. Let me say that in our opinion our children are well mannered and we have taken them to the best hotels. When we arrived, the first thing... more

Michelin star! If you like the idea of a night at Ballachulish House and a Michelin starred dinner, go soon, because based on my experience of a visit today, neither will last too long. Having experienced the pleasures of Airds Hotel at Port Appin the previous night, this was a dire disappointment. Our welcome in the afternoon involved being shown... more

We stayed one night at this hoteland were very disapointed. The main purpose of the visit was the reputation for excellent food and with a five star rating for accomodation we expected very high standards. The positives were good food and excellent service. The negatives were the tiny bedroom and sub standard accomodation. The furry pedastal mat around the cistern... more

We had booked almost 12 months ahead for the final 4 nights of our fortnight in Scotland - chosen room, made dinner reservations the lot. On the morning we were due to leave our previous hotel in Skye my wife had been quite poorly with an allergic food reaction and I had to take her to the doctors. Before doing... more

Beautiful, meticulously maintained 17th century home. Dinner served [sort of] family style so we got to chat with some locals over canapes though sit privately at dinner then join again for after-dinner petit fours and drinks. Waited on hand and foot by the owner and staff - whose service lends understanding to the meticulous surroundings - we recommend being on... more

Beware readers! Many of these reviews of Ballachulish House and Ballachulish Hotel obviously confuse the two. "House" is an historic country house and "Hotel" is an older, baronial style hotel. The two are quite close to each other but are totally different. Example--there is no "front desk" at House, you simply walk into the entry hall of a home. So,... more
