What a fantastic place to stay - the owner is a bit of a perfectionist, particularly when it comes down to breakfast. Food is carefully sourced and high quality - and the award-winning porridge is amazing. Rooms are clean and quiet; the scenery outside is beautiful. This is probably the best B&B I have ever stayed at.

We stayed here for 3 nights in August on a tour of Scotland, and consequently I have been converted to eat porridge as I could not forego trying David's award winning variety! This is a lovely old house (Victorian?) and one of our rooms had fantastic far ranging views of the mountains; the other had a beautiful outlook onto a... More

I stayed here for three nights with the plan to climb some Munros. That didn't quite work out due to the weather, but it was a very pleasant experience. The house is easily located with signs on the road as you drive into the village, and there is car parking across the road. It's an old house with ensuite facilities... More

The village was quaint and quite beautiful in its own right. David, our host, was friendly and very helpful in recommending a place for dinner and recommending some side trips we might want to take. I have to concur on the porridge--creamy and well worth ordering. The room was pleasant, and more than adequate for one night or more if... More

The B and B is excellent value. Fern Villa was part way through a cycle trip from John O’Groats to Windermere. The rooms were good, as were the bathrooms. What sets this B and B apart is the porridge. 2 of our party ordered it for breakfast after I reported reading that David had performed well in a porridge making... More

After a bad B&B experience the night before where i paid 15 pounds more than the tariff at Fern Villa, i was worried this would not be a good experience BUT how wrong i was. Right from David's friendly greeting, i felt like i was a welcome guest staying at a friend's home. Chatting to David and Catherine, petting Blossom... More

We stayed here for one night to give us break on a long journey up to Scotland and were very pleased with our accommodation. David was extremely helpful, carrying our luggage into the house and up the stairs, and took the time to have a chat with us in the evening. Next morning the breakfast was superbly cooked by him... We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fern Villa Guest House. It's an older picturesque building that has been nicely maintained and renovated with new windows, updated interiors and en-suite baths. Off-street parking is provided across the street. Rooms are on the smallish size, as can be expected in older buildings, but they're nicely equipped with a queen bed, TV,... More
