I stayed at The Compasses Inn en route to Land's End and at the end of a long day's cycling would have accepted any welcome and a bed! What I received surpassed all expectations; a warm welcome with a comfortable, clean and spacious room all set within an extremely quiet and relaxing setting. Having rested up I was blown away... We stayed at this inn as part of a walking tour. We were greeted upon arrival by proprietor Alan, who was very warm and friendly. Our room was a good size, with a couch and table, coffee service complete with KitKats, and a comfy but squeaky bed. The downside was no shower, only a bathtub with handheld shower head (in... More

After a long morning at Stonehenge and some confusing driving to drop off a fellow traveler on a nearby obscure lane, we literally stumbled on this inn at 13:30 on a Monday afternoon. We needed refreshing and surely this pub provided us with all we needed. The kitchen was open till 2:00 and the lamb burgers were tasty. The staff... More

I think if you get to find this place you should award your navigator a large drink as they will have earned it. Where do i start ? Its in a fantastic rural location, great food and fantastic beer. Also importantly for me dog friendly, which was very helpful. Room had a kingsize bed, TV, sofa, tea & coffee making... More

Stayed there to meet friends room was cold and univiting toilet had stain on it and the shower over the bath you had to hold it up.noisy extractor fan going all afternoon. The whole place was awfull even the restaraunt was poor. Do your self a favour and stay at The Beckford Arms down the road

This is a pretty little Establishment in an agreeable setting. It's food is well presented but does not taste as good as it looks. It is a popular bucolic watering hole with the pink corduroyed set, who eat with their eyes and enjoy anything which looks good and tastes better than school stodge. The staff are very agreeable, but the... More

A group of us stayed here for three nights and had a fabulous time. The rooms were clean, the pub lots of fun, service was excellent and the food delicious. It's out in the middle of no where but there are a lot of public footpaths for hiking. Lovely countryside! The only down side to the inn was breakfast wasn't... More

Very welcoming staff and idyllic setting in the heart of the countryside. Very very busy on the Friday night, but meal very good.Excellent breakfast too. Only complaints would be, in room 2 the shower fitting was just on the bathtaps with no wall fitting, no long mirror in the bedroom and bed was very squeeky!

We stopped off at this lovely pub en-route from Devon for the second visit. We had a very nice meal. It was good value and the decor and surroundings are very pleasant. It didn't open until 7pm on the evening we went and there was a queue of people outside waiting to get in. It seems a very popular place... More

Very friendly proprietor and staff. Wonderful warm and friendly atmosphere in the pub/restaurant. Food quite good (pork tenderloin) to excellent (roast duck). Breakfast excellent and more than ample. Room 3 was comfortable, but in need of a makeover, particularly the bathroom. Lovely secluded location.
