We wanted a quick nourishing lunch, and selected King John's Hunting lodge and wasn't disappointed, we enjoyed a warm goats cheese and onion tart with side salad. The portion size was exactly right, often the portions are too large in cafes but the portions left us comfortably full but still able to walk on and enjoy the Abbey.

My family were visiting Laycock on a lovely Sunny Easter Monday. We stopped here for lunch and although waiting for some time for someone to take our order it was nice just sitting in the lively garden area. We eventually ordered and once ordered did not have to wait too long for it to arrive. The staff, although very busy,... More

We stopped at this charming inn for afternoon tea. We looked forward to it each day but this day proved something special. We met the owner, a vivacious octogenarian who autographed her book on the art of the afternoon tea. The service and the food were perfect. Find this place. You will not regret it.

A nice secret garden is located through a delicate flower arch. Tables located on the lawn and the patio in summer and inside for the cold winter. Been here lots of times as a special treat for my wife and I. The afternoon tea is stunning quality and comes with margrets own mixed loose leaf tea which is made specially... More

Another faultless experience here! Friendly and happy staff, beautiful garden and good prices. My family of 7 went for an afternoon tea and some of us were so impressed with the large choice of cakes that we had two!! Every plate was empty :) they even had toys for my young niece!! Fantastic!

The birds were singing and the sun was shining, while we sat in the wonderful garden out back enjoying a lovely lunch, drinking the house blend. This is definitely worth a visit – a really wonderful little place, that ooze’s character and charm (oh and the cakes aren’t bad either). All the small things that make a proper English tea... More

We called in here for morning coffee on our potter round Lacock village. The historic building is in wonderful condition. We were amazed by the quaint tearoom, with its antiques and banners and the wonderful smell of baking. Margaret was most apologetic that her usual blend of coffee had not been delivered ! She is an amazing lady 86 years... More

I am always sceptical when a B&B has only excellent ratings. However, this is one occassion when they are fully justified. This is a beautifully kept historic building and Margaret is an excellent host who can't do enough for you. We stayed on Valentine's day in the King's room which is a truely special room. Breakfast was fantastic. Overall well... More

Just had some quality time in a quality Tea Room. Was tempted by the lumb (apparently a Margaret invention) but settled for the smoked salmon open sandwich which had a cheeky little dressing drizzled over the ample mound of salmon and salad on so soft brown bread. Was naughty and followed this with a cheeky little cream tea (although it... More

Don't just stay at King John's Hunting lodge for it's significant and historical value, location or charm. Don't just stay for the quaint tearoom and delicious breakfast. Don't just stay for the beautiful antiques and low beams. Don't just stay for the adorable untouched village of Lacock with it's idyllic surrounds and fantastic abbey. Stay for Margaret and do take... More
