Arranged to meet some friends here on our travels and were really impressed with this grand old family house. The beds were so comfy, we slept in and neary missed breakfast! Our vegetarian friend was pleased with the breakfast selection and I loved the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon! We were missing our own Jack Russell, so it was a... More

The proprietor, Elaine, was nowhere near as unfriendly or unwelooming as has been reported elsewhere on this site, quite the opposite, in fact, but I have to agree that the B&B business appears "secondary" to her other interests; this illustrated by, for example, rather "tired" looking breakfast cereals in plastic bowls, juice not being replenished, so-so decor / facilities in... This was our second stay at The Old Rectory and we loved it again. Elaine is a very genuine and welcoming host. Although it was our second stay we have stayed in three different rooms - the Vestry room, the Bishop room, and the Dean's room. All three rooms have very comfortable beds with full bathroom. Full breakfast with lots... More

We were down in Wiltshire celebrating a school friends 50th birthday dinner. We choose The Old Rectory for its proximity to the event but were really pleased with our choice. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was good. There was a nice atmosphere and it was a good price. We spent Sunday pottering around the village, which is unbelievable... More

We spent one night here, on a voucher we'd been given. A lovely hotel, not overly modernised as elderly country houses sometimes are, but genuinely old and beautiful. We enjoyed our stay immensely, particularly the views from our bedroom over the gardens, the short walk into the lovely village, and the delicious and plentiful breakfast. A couple of the pubs... I stayed one night here with my daughter-in-law and 3 of her relatives from Australia on their first trip to England. Everything looked and sounded great from the website but the reality is somewhat different. The building is magnificent but in serious need of some TLC on the inside AND a thorough cleaning. The bathrooms were scruffy and put together... More

Spent two nights in this glorious village. The Rectory is a beautiful building and just on the edge of the village. Less than 5 minutes walk to the pubs and shops in the centre. Clean and pleasant room. I look forward to a return trip! More

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights at The Old Rectory and we were greeted warmly by Elaine on arrival. We stayed in The Deans room which was a splendid room with a four poster bed. The Old Rectory is indeed an old building, however our room was very clean and I had such a good nights sleep in... More

This was a visit booked using a voucher given to us as a present. We found it to be very conveniently placed to visit the wonderful village of Lacock but found The Old Rectory to be a serious let-down. The welcome seemed luke-warm and we were totally ignored by the landlady's husband, who was washing his car. On entering we... More

Booked on spur of moment, we were on our way back from another trip and just came across this wonderful little village. Elaine gave us the warmest of welcomes. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. Yes the building is old, but it has character. Would recommend this b and b and hope to return in the... More
