You have to hand it to the hshotels marketing department, the Sunday night special is a great opportunity to stay at a gorgeous spot in Sussex with the most wonderful kitchen in the area and sweet, genuine staff. But only if you get the room right. I booked this as a last minute treat and was upsold from a classic... more

Management response from

I am pleased that you enjoyed the food here at Ockenden Manor, I am sorry that canape's happened to be the same as on your last visit in November, but they do alter on a daily basis. With regards to the lack of newspaper when the gentlemen checked-in before you arrived he declined having one and because he arrived before...

We wanted a country mansion kind of hotel for a weekend escape (from Brighton, 20 minutes away!). We looked at various options in the Southeast, then discovered Ockenden Manor and thought, “Yes! Just what we want.” The hotel building was exactly what we had imagined – ye olde mansion, gracefully aged, lovely well kept grounds. Furnished unimaginatively, but comfortably. The... more

Everything is relative when it comes to hotels, and as I used to review these places I see it as perfectly reasonable for a Travel lodge to be as faultless as the George V. My partner and I have stayed at a number of country house hotels in this area (Amberly Castle, Gravetye Manor, Bailiffe's Court) but Ockenden has the... more

We stayed at Ockenden on a "Sunday special" offer - which included the cost of a meal (excluding wine) with the overnight stay. Effectively, that meant the room cost next-to-nothing. The room was well-kept and supplied with all the basic luxuries, including a notably deep bath. The hotel is located close to a variety of attractions (sadly, many of those... more

It is my birthday & wedding anniversary on Monday so I wanted to take my wife somewhere special to spoil ourselves. Today I booked a Deluxe room for Monday night. We enjoy fine dining so were especially looking forward to eating in the Michelin Star restaurant. Ockenden Manor states that the restaurant is open from 7pm until 9pm and as... more

We stayed at this hotel on their Sunday Night Special rate which was excellent value. Overall, we had a great stay at this Elizabethan manor house but there were some caveats. To start with, the lady at reception, though very efficient, was rather aloof and came across as though everything WAS too much trouble. Every time we wanted service in... more

I just love this hotel. The staff are attentive and very pleasant. Fresh milk is provided for tea! The rooms are charming, many are quirky. If it is peace and relaxation, combined with excellent dining, you're after then I don't think you can be disappointed. It's my favourite hotel in Southern England. more

We stayed for just one night last weekend. There is an excellent offer for a Sunday night, if you just want to get away for a quick break. Upon arrival, I was horrified to find that there was a wedding party that day at the hotel. However, we were assured that this was quite separate to the main dining area,... more

We have stayed here many times and have loved it every time. Each of the rooms are very individual and fantastically furnished. This is a fabulous Elizabethan Manor house, full of winding staircases and oak panelling. The Michelin starred restaurant never fails to please. The wine list is great too. The staff here have worked here for many years and... more

We have stayed at Ockenden Manor on several occasions and would thoroughly recommend it for a relaxing gastronomic break. They offer a sunday night dinner, bed and breakfast price which is very good value. The food is fabulous as you would expect from the chef's michelin star. The service is excellent - attentive while being relaxed and friendly. The rooms... more
