Very pretty small village situated just off the Moor. Close to absolutely nothing and ideal for people looking to enjoy the countryside and peace and quiet. The hotel rooms was spacious and had a nice view. The room itself was very comfortable and clean and met all our needs. We had a delightful meal in the restaurant and it was... More

Stayed here overnight with two chums on our penultimate night walking the Two Moors Way from Plymouth to Lynmouth. Our twin room was spacious and very clean, with the bathroom large enough to house a bath rather than just a shower- much appreciated after 6 days walking! Breakfast was very good too. My only gripe is that the bed was... More

Where do I start. 1. Guinness was old left in barrel to long. 2. Mixed grill was cooked in dirty pan with old fat and consequently tasted burnt with no difference between the meats. 3. Replacement meal. Cod and chips. Was a child's portion, half the size compared to other positions on the table. 4. The named driver of the... More

I just had a fantastic Sunday Lunch here. The menu pretty much offered something for most tastes - we had the Horn Hoggit (older than a lamb, younger than mutton) and it was really good. I haven't been here for a good few years but I can say that the food is as good if not better than ever. I've... More

A little unprepossessing from the outside and a bit of a maze inside, but this hotel has true character - charmingly eccentric. It also had real ales, welcoming fires burning and great food, some of the best we ate in the Devon/Somerset area. Our room on the top floor was fantastic, huge by most hotel standards with a comfortable bed... More

Stopped in for lunch before a long circular walk with 3 friends. The pub was quiet, but still had a warm feeling about it. Food and local ales were excellent. Burger looked very good, and could probably feed 2 people!

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this delightful Inn. We had a lovely room which was comfortable, spotless, well stocked and extremely peaceful! Dinner Menu offered a wide choice which was cooked to perfection. The whole place oozes charm and character and we had a lovely stay.

We stayed in the area for a long weekend on a walking holiday. After a long walk along the Barle from Tarr Steps we stagged to the Royal Oak at Withypool. With dog in tow we were looking forward to lunch. We had forgotten about Mother's Day. They were fully booked but they found a small table for us by... More

Called for lunch here on a walk from Tarr Steps with a very muddy beagle. Just made it before they stopped serving food. We were quickly welcomed and given a table by the fire. Food was of very good quality - my only complaint would be that they'd run out of venison! Still - it means we'll have to return!
