The hotel is less than basic it is as we were informed under new management, all we can say is we hope they have a bottomless pot, it needs renovating from top to bottom. Very friendly staff but the decor is awful peeling wallpaper in the bedroom, tired bathrooms with ceiling looking as if they are about to fall down.... more

I was given a trip to the Schooner Hotel as a gift for my 40th birthday. The idea was a spooky weekend at one of Britain's most haunted hotels. From the minute we entered the building we were given the warmest welcome. Annette greeted us in reception and knew who we were, why we had booked and had reserved the... more

I went to the Schooner with my 2 sisters, my daughter and my daughter in law for a girls night away from home. We only went for the 1 night, we would have liked to have stayed longer though. The staff at the hotel were excellent, they couldnt have helped us any more than they did. Annette, the manageress and... more

We booked through Late rooms web site one week prior to arrival. On arrrival we were shown to our room which can only be described as shabby. Filthy carpet, damp smelling, peeling wallpaper, no TV reception , filthy pillows (clean covers) furniture and furnishes awful. Not even a towel rail in the bathroom. We asked for a change of room,... more

After spending a disastrous night at this hotel last spring we were intrigued to receive an offer from the new management to spend a complmentary night and view their improvements. With trepidation we decided to go ( after all you don''t get this offer everyday) We booked with a charming manager who we found out later died very siddenly and... more

I had heard reports about the great food at the schooner hotel so myself and my family decided to try it. Once we got there the hotel seemed quite welcoming, however we then discovered there was no high chairs for my children so in the end we had to go elsewhere and wont be ateempting another meal there. more

Turned down first room offered. Took 2nd offer felt I was a nuisance. Hotel smelt of damp and had mould on walls. Duvet cover stained, mattress overhung base of bed kept slipping off. no shower, furniture had layer of dust all over. Chef's cooking was lovely and his wife very welcoming. Only good thing about hotel. Village small, views of sea... more

We booked for New Year. No TV reception in the room, no kettle when we got a kettle the milk was off. We were not told when we booked that there was no choice of main meal only beef, which neither of us eat not even a vegetatian option. The service was slow .The waiter brought three meals to the... more

Management response from
Troy1979, General Manager

We took over a very run down hotel on 1 December. Many defects had been attended to by New Year but obviously not everything was quite as we would wish it. For this reason we offered an exceptional value for money deal, which most people were very happy with - see below. The television reception was an issue at the...

Arrived mid afternoon after travelling over 200 miles from Aberdeenshire in heavy snow. Happy to get there at all. Nice fire in the reception made it feel good on arrival. The hotel is on street and parking to the rear, through the arch. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment after a number of years of neglect. From what we could see,... more
