I reviewed the Hope and Anchor about 18 months ago when it was a pub of real character where locals mixed with holidaymakers in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. There were English and Italian food options, the latter from the adjoining Italian restaurant. Alas, the Hope has been the subject of a makeover which has converted the bar into what is... More

Quite a few of us stayed here for a friend's wedding which was nearby. Very small hotel but very nice. We had a really good time here. Rooms were ok . Beach nearby and a few other pubs if you fancy a change. Would reccomend

The Hope and Anchor has changed a lot since we last visited it about 12 years ago, but it is still a charming B & B, with the added addition of 2 really good restaurants. The staff were lovely, and happy to make sure that you had everything you needed. The food was gorgeous, and can't understand the poor reviews... More

We had a lovely very large room 'Sandpiper' - very comfortable big bed, perfectly adequate shower room and no 'paper thin walls' mentioned in previous downbeat review. Good welcome from barman-cum-reception and a pleasant young lady showed us to our room. We chose to eat in the bar dining area rather than the Italian restaurant adjacent and were very impressed... Really nice experience - good customer service. They have obviously responded to some of the feedback on here and made some improvements. The room was very clean and nicely decorated, the food was great and the people were very friendly. Would recommend the Hope and Anchor to anyone. Lovely place to stay.

The place feels ok when you walk in, but the upstairs is just awful...like going back to the 70's. Just can't believe places like this still exist. Depressing decor, paper thin walls, grim bathroom, with some damp patches. To be fair the staff were very nice, but they have to work with this stupid system where you have to fill... More

Lovely setting, room was very comfy, cosy and clean, and the food in the restaurant was superb. Totally unexpected foodwise I have to say, but the steak I had was one of the best I've had in England, and I've had a few!

We stayed a night whilst cycling the Coast & Castles route. The restaurant is nice and the food quality was good and enjoyable. The pub has an Italian restaurant that has been designed well and has a pleasant atmosphere. The room was a bit small and tired, but adequate for a night. Breakfast was good. Good location in the middle... More

We booked the Italian restaurant for our pre wedding meal. Adam (manager) could not have been more helpful and enthusiastic. He set up tailor made menus and even bought a bottle of champagne for myself and my husband. The food was fantastic and the service was even better!
