Enjoyed my short break - something really different. You need to be sociable and fairly energetic as there is a busy program of group activities and the meals are communal too. The property is in a great location in the village of Alnmouth a short walk from the beach. The rooms were clean and well decorated, and I found the... More

Took part in a walking holiday here. The walks were varied, up in the hills and by the sea. HF Holidays own this house. The cost of maintaining it must be huge, Unfortunately this means lack of refurbishment, e.g the room I was in had paper peeling off the walls. The food was below average, e.g overcooked vegetables. Parking is... More

We stayed at Nether Grange for a birthday party and very much enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and efficient. Our huge room (34) on the top floor had wonderful views over the sea and estuary. A bit surprised to find that it had a bath but no shower, although showers are available along the corridor.

This was my first HF holiday. The hotel location, staff, cleanliness, rooms, were all very good. Breakfasts and dinners and the packed lunches were also good. Lots of food for hungry hikers! We were a large group that dominated the dining room so I did 'feel' for the few other small groups as, you are forced to mingle due to... More

This is the third HF hotel I have visited in about 5 months and was not disappointed. As part of a group of 24 photographers; Nether Grange met all our needs. Communal dining and excellent bar and lounge facilities, meant that we could socialise and wine and dine together. The breakfast choice is excellent, with a wide range of cold... More

It's been very many years since we came to HF centres as walkers: now, slightly decrepit, we booked a three-night break as 'independents' ,i.e. guests not taking part in the daily walking programme. Nether Grange is excellent in every aspect except one: the only parking is on one side of the adjacent one-way street or along the sea front beyond... More

I booked this hotel with an internet agency for a party of four for a one-night stopover. I had no idea that it was a place for walking groups and we were rather surprised to find communal breakfast tables - and disappointed to find no places left for us! The waiting staff did make places for us, but clearly guests... More

I'm a member of HF so the communal dining didn't bother me at all. Very surprised at some of the negative comments. The food was excellent. Always well cooked and a good variety on the menu. All the staff were friendly and helpful. No complaints from me. Amazed some contributors moaned about furnishings. Have they nothing better to do with... More

Nether Grange, a former Granary, is in a wonderful location facing the sea. Although the service was generally very good, the menu and quality of food was poor and not of the standard of other HF holidays. The vegetables were over cooked and jacket potatoes had been reheated- possibly left over from the day-time menu of the Dandelion Cafe. The... More

We were staying there on a HF walking holiday. We had a lovely room with sea view. Everything about the place was good. Excelent food plenty to eat and drink. It runs activity holidays so you need plenty to eat. Even though i was walking 7 miles a day I still put weight on. It was a very convivial holidayWe... More
