Everyone was very welcoming but room disappointing. My wife described shower as the only one she has ever been in and come out feeling dry - not much water and control impossible. Breakfasts were variable ( no yoghurts in Alnmouth!) and depended on who was cooking that day. Two evening meals were really good and not over-priced. All the staff... More

Found the Red Lion on the internet and were lured in by good reviews. Stayed for 2 nights in Room 5. Like previous review bed too soft but this is personal preference and not a major issue. Lived up to expectation created by positive reviews. Good bar with a varied selection of guest and regular ales, reasonably priced restaurant providing... More

We recently stayed in Room 5 at the Red Lion. The room was comfortable and clean, the only gripe being the bed which was too soft which, combined with the harder pillows, meant a stiff neck in the morning. When we first arrived in our room in the afternoon we could hear every word of the conversation taking place in... More

Just home from a few nights at the Red Lion. What a great find. Never been to Alnmouth before even though we have been to Northumberland several times but will definitely be back. The room was was very nice (room 5) but as previously mentioned the bed lets the room down. Its very low and also fairly soft. The food... More

Spent a couple of days in Alnmouth at the Red Lion recently. Very impressed with the facilities. Excellent beer and a good, atmospheric bar. The room we had was excellent, much bigger than the standard and slightly quirky but up to modern standards and very comfortable. We ate there for one night and were very impressed with menu but more... More

we arrived for our meal about 4pm the restaurant opened at 5pm so we had a drink in the really pretty beer garden, bit of a walk from the bar! Returned to the restaurant 10 minutes early to be told by the poor waitress that Chef said it would be 5.30pm when service started. Not much of an issue but... More

Loved this place. Very pleasant beer garden with a lovely view over the river. Tastiest beer ! Must remember Black Sheep Ale! Really relaxing place with some very tasty food. Has to be the tastiest and biggest onion rings I have had!! Saying that the burger was incredibly tasty too!Yum! Friendly service, just what a pub should be. Decor is... More

It was a gorgeously sunny day and we sat in the very pleasant garden (strategically placed hedges and shrubs sheild you from the carpark). Food was fantastic - exactly what you would want from a country pub; plentiful, tasty, home cooked. Pies had perfect crusty pastry, and big chunks of steak, chips were big and crispy and there was lashings... More

Where to start? We stayed a couple of nights and ate in the restaurant both times. The restaurant was great – it's a warm, old-fashioned pub which seems to get busiest as locals pop in either for something to drink or eat on the way home from work. Be warned, the portions are huge, although on the second night my... More

We stayed at the Red Lion over Valentines weekend for an impromptu break. We couldn't have asked for more. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Comfy bed and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of breakfast items. The kitchen even catered for a Bacon sandwich as I did not want the full cooked breakfast. The pub... More
