We had a lovely lunch here last weekend. Fresh, plentiful food and swift service. Would definitely recommend this place for a delicious lunch. From the window table you can see the abbey ruins and picturesque view of the surrounding countryside.

...is the restaurant in the Inn across the road, it too run by English Heritage. They share the carparking. You can sit inside amongst a happy mix of quaint & contemporary or outside in attractive gardens. We had afternoon tea with lovely cakes and superb tea served by really friendly enthusiastic staff. Made a disappointing visit to the abbey well... More

We did not need an excuse to go a second time - food first time was good enough to drag us back the day after!!! You get goo hearty fare... served by nice folk... and if you do get a good day the outside seating area is great too! :)

Very pleasant experience. Friendly service in a lovely, spacious tea house. Pots of tea and beautiful large pieces of cake. Four of us shared one piece! Even though it was nearly closing time we were not persuaded to leave. Across the road from Byland Abbey. Definitely stop here and enjoy the Chesterfield lounges by the fire (in winter). They also... Stayed here for one night, had the Kilburn room as they allow dogs, room was very comfortable with large bathroom, couldn't fault it. Some lovely touches such as a selection of wine in the room at a very fair price. Beautiful surroundings next to, the abbey, great area for walking /cycling. We ate at the Wombwell arms a 15 minute walk... More

We went on a walk around the Sutton Bank area of the south-west North York Moors, then in the afternoon went to Byland Abbey. As we hadn't eaten since breakfast we decided to give this place a try as it was directly opposite the Abbey. It's a very quaint old inn which can clearly cater for larger parties and small... More

Superb lunch of pea and mint soup with huge chunks of lovely granary bread. Tea and lemon drizzel cake later after a tour around the abbey ruins. The decor gave the perfect atmosphere to our veiw of the abbey from the windows. Definately recommend stopping here!

We came across The Abbey Inn by accident when we were diverted along some country lanes on the way to Pickering & was pleasantly surprised. It was a warm, holiday Monday & we sat outside in the garden, in the shadow of Byland Abbey. The Inn was beautiful with a fascinating mixture of interesting furniture & alcoves. We ordered coffee,... My family took a trip out on bank holiday Monday, we live in Thirsk & headed for Sutton Bank but came across Abby Inn first. My father had celebrated his 70th Birthday there a few years ago and because we saw a sign for tea room we called in. Weather lovely, fantastic atmosphere, amazing view but more importantly Victoria sandwich... More
