Popped in one afternoon while visiting the Abbey and enjoyed the quick stop off. Smashing little cafe with reasonable prices and extremely friendly people. Very pleasant indeed. Quaint is perhaps the best way to describe both the café and overall surroundings.

We did not stay here but had a fantastic afternoon at the abbey and decided to pop in for a drink and cakes with my husband and two children before heading home. We were served by the Manager of the tea room, who was abrupt and seemed annoyed that we had gone in twenty minutes before closing on a Sunday... More

My husband and I stopped here this afternoon Just as they were having a new fridge delivered. We were the only ones there and sat in the garden on what was a beautiful afternoon. We waited a short while as the fridge got stuck in the doorway. The staff got to us as quickly as possible and as we had... More

We had planned to visit the abbey but the tearoom was an added bonus. I fell in love with the interior straight away as it is so in keeping with the abbey but contempory in comfort and facilities. The staff were very helpful and service was prompt. The Yorkshire platter for two arrived on a wooden revolving platter and my... More

We had a lovely lunch here last weekend. Fresh, plentiful food and swift service. Would definitely recommend this place for a delicious lunch. From the window table you can see the abbey ruins and picturesque view of the surrounding countryside.

...is the restaurant in the Inn across the road, it too run by English Heritage. They share the carparking. You can sit inside amongst a happy mix of quaint & contemporary or outside in attractive gardens. We had afternoon tea with lovely cakes and superb tea served by really friendly enthusiastic staff. Made a disappointing visit to the abbey well... More

We did not need an excuse to go a second time - food first time was good enough to drag us back the day after!!! You get goo hearty fare... served by nice folk... and if you do get a good day the outside seating area is great too! :)

Very pleasant experience. Friendly service in a lovely, spacious tea house. Pots of tea and beautiful large pieces of cake. Four of us shared one piece! Even though it was nearly closing time we were not persuaded to leave. Across the road from Byland Abbey. Definitely stop here and enjoy the Chesterfield lounges by the fire (in winter). They also... Stayed here for one night, had the Kilburn room as they allow dogs, room was very comfortable with large bathroom, couldn't fault it. Some lovely touches such as a selection of wine in the room at a very fair price. Beautiful surroundings next to, the abbey, great area for walking /cycling. We ate at the Wombwell arms a 15 minute walk... More

We went on a walk around the Sutton Bank area of the south-west North York Moors, then in the afternoon went to Byland Abbey. As we hadn't eaten since breakfast we decided to give this place a try as it was directly opposite the Abbey. It's a very quaint old inn which can clearly cater for larger parties and small... More
