Went here for a meal after many people recommending it, and had a lovely meal. The atmosphere, food, candlelit dining area all made it a great experience. I enjoyed the scallops to start followed by the duck which was delicious just a little too big, not that my partner minded as he finished it for me. Great place for a... More

Stayed here in December and was again impressed with the food and bar restaurant. Always opt for a table in the bar where you can warm yourself beside the huge inglenook fireplace. There is a fantastic atmosphere and the menu is out of this world - it's difficult to choose. However everything is of the highest quality and beautifully prepared.... More

Not our first visit but the Blue Lion was handily placed for our final destination. Warm welcome, both from the staff and the roaring fires. Menus well explained and drinks arrived quickly. Severely tempted by the main courses, including local pheasant and venison but settled for a warm salad of ham hock, roasted potatoes and salad which was a pleasant... More

What a great birthday surprise. Fantastic welcome, lovely accommodation, good beer and fine dining at its best. I read the negative reviews (I know but curiosity and all that) and was more than a little concerned. I needn't have been. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Blue Lion for a great relaxing break!

Built in 1840 this Hotel and Pub has real Georgian character and atmosphere. The chef is talented and Rib Eye Steak was superb as was Moules Mariniere. Rooms are varied and yet comfortable provided you are not expecting double glazing so the odd draught !! Breakfasts are superb and individually cooked to order. Staff are friendly and helpful

We were out and about in the area on New Years Eve and on the recommendation of our holiday cottages owners we called in on the off chance we could have lunch-the staff were very welcoming to both us and our pup ,found us a small table but offered to move us about ten minutes later when a larger one... I have enjoyed outstanding meals here in the past but it seems the Blue Lion has become complacent. Lunch on Saturday 2nd Jan 2016 started with us being served with almost frozen butter and dry bread rolls. Okay so they are busy and it is 2nd Jan so perhaps I should make allowances. But hey there is no allowance in... More

Today is Boxing Day and I went with my partner and her mother for lunch at the Blue Lion, East Witton. I had beef suet pudding for my main coarse. I have to say the quality was appalling. The suet pudding itself was so overcooked to the point that it resembled dried wood bark, and retained absolutely no moisture whatsoever.... More

Like a fool I left my soft overnight zippy bag behind the desk when I left. The next day I rang to confess and to ask their help in doing things like wrapping my iPad in bubble wrap , securing the zips with cable ties etc in preparation for a pick up that day by parcel force . The girls... More

I was very surprised to see some of the poor reviews for The Blue Lion, as our stay was amazing. We stayed with our young spaniel in one of the courtyard rooms, which was perfect for us. The room was very clean, comfortable and relaxing. The room was great to relax in after a long walk across the dales. We... More
