We originally booked to stay in the Richard III hotel for my girlfriend's birthday/Valentine's day but, because of a mix-up, we were moved to the Black Swan, their sister hotel. After looking at the comparatively poor reviews of this place we were a little wary of the move. As soon as we got to the hotel we realised we had... More

We stayed as a family in August 2014. Middleham as well as the rest of Yorshire is a lovely part of England. Even though I'm Lancastrian! This hotel was adequate for our stay. We had our two children with us. Put us off a bit when the owner said he hated kids staying at the hotel though! The hotel and... More

A wonderful and quirky pub, with an excellent roaring fire and very friendly locals. The beer was excellent. The breakfast was served at the Richard III and is one of the best breakfasts I have had in Yorkshire. A great place, with a much slower pace of life. Nigel was the barman and really helped with our stay, giving excellent... More

Used to stay here a lot. New owner though is an idiot. Treats customers and staff poorly, I believe his name is Barry but I wouldn't recommend getting too close as his personal hygiene isn't the best. Food suppose to be good but ours was dire. Real ale cloudy and vinegary. Overheard them commenting on how they put their own... More

Stayed overnight for a Saturday into Sunday last day of August 2014 break. At a reduced price (a late booking - last room available) of £60 for a double room with breakfast it was very good value for money. The pub is over 350 years old so expect narrow staircases, creaking floors, ceiling beams and a super inglenook fireplace! Whilst... More

We had stayed here once before and had had a great experience (I believe it has changed hands) but this time we left disappointed. The room we had was fine- lovely old beams and large window but cheap decor especially in the bathroom. The bath did not have a plug. We did not eat our evening meal there and judging... More

Went here last friday on our way to forbidden corner and ordered the burgers and childs chicken coujons. The food was very good and tasted home made, especially the burgers and chunky wedge like chips. When the bill came was charged few pounds more than should have as think they mixed up our tab with someone else, but as food... More

At the end of the day, this is not really a b&b, it is a room above a pub. The family room was clean and spacious with a large bathroom (no plug for bath though !). Breakfast was nice (it is served by the bar) but had to wait 40 mins for it on the Sunday. When I asked for... More

Room & food were great, but the most ignorant people we have had the misfortune to meet. My wife had a nasty fall in the ladies toilets on a wet floor that had no signage about. When I informed them of it nobody had a thought of how she was, just put a sign up. Not one of the management... More
