We stayed at the George whilst attending a friends wedding and were pleased with the value for money offered. The room we stayed in was a reasonable size (bathroom was huge) and with a freshly cooked breakfast for two I don't think you can complain for the price. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Didn't stay, just dropped in for lunch as there appeared to be a restaurant and maybe an experienced cook.Bad mistake. Restaurant was closed which was hardly surprising as this was a wet Tuesday lunchtime.Three people at the bar not talking, nobody eating.First the good bit.Pint of excellent Prescott Golden Bitter was £2.90. The Hunters Chicken (£10.95) when it turned up after half... More

1 night break. Tea mug in room had dried sugar residue up the insides. I washed out & then picked up glass to fill with water. Glasses were dirty. I went put used teabags in bin, pedal on bin did not work so had lift lid. Inner lid was very dirty and appeared to have mould spores. Took glasses down... More

Recently had lunch there, food was ok but whoever the cleaner is should be ashamed. the toilet floors were black and toilet seats falling apart, the foyer carpet was sticky when walking on it, and huge cobwebs hanging from ceiling . The bar staff were very pleasant though

shock horror i do not in any way recommend this place i expected it to be old but when walking into the bedroom looks like the ceiling is going to crash down bedding smelt of unaired dampness then to top it all there was a cheese log crawling across the headboard!! we were on the top floor.

Just spent 3 nights at The George, the staff were great they treated us like old friends and the locals were very welcoming. It was clean and tidy and the breakfasts were top notch. We had food in the bar when we arrived which was also good. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned daily. Very pleasant stay would recommend it.

Room was cold on arrival but the radiator was off so we turned it on and the second night the room was a nice temperature. Fan heater supplied though, so first night temperature remedied. Lots of hot water so had a lovely bath both nights. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and open fires in the bar made the place feel really homely.... More

Stayed here with a baby on a busy night leading up to xmas and didnt hear any of the revelry taking place in the bar. Spacious rooms, quirky olde world feel in keeping with the historic market town location. Showers are powerful and hot, tea making facilities and freeview flat screen tvs. The cooked breakfast was fantastic with cereals, juices... More

We dropped in here for lunch last week and had a reasonable visit. The food was quite tasty but the service was not good. They do need to invest more in their staff training. We had a chicken dish with vegetables and it was well presented. We also had vegetable soup which we enjoyed too. We would go back if... More

Stayed 2 nights. Very nice staff , rooms are in need off attention , nasty beds , cold. Food in mornings is okay , cooked food not so much, dinner was poor , Would find somewhere else to eat out. Pub itself is nice , nice open lit log fire. It's just a shame the rest could not of been... More
