House in uproar- decorating, needed somewhere local to get away. We've used the Fish'nchippy', ground floor but never eaten upstairs or stayed overnight. Carly found us an 'all in deal', Over looking the sea, great room. The Restaurant staff were great. A friendly knowledgeable manager (knew his wines), and spoilt by Ellie P and Emily. The food was excellent, our... More

Stayed in room 10 in the annexe next door to the hotel. 14 stairs led to a nice room, complete with tea & coffee making facilities, fresh milk in a very cold (unusual as they are normally useless) fridge, together with bottles of complimentary water and pop! The view was of the building opposite! Nice bathroom, smallish shower, complimentary soaps... More

An excellent, quaint British Inn. We stayed for one night on the way to a cruise departing from Harwich. The hotel was clean and the folks at the front desk and in the bar were friendly and very helpful. We had had a problem with our luggage from the airline trip to England and Louise at the front desk offered... More

We booked a one night stay for our precruise hotel. We were delightfully surprised with the hotel and the town of Harwich. The hotel is three stories with no elevator (or lift) but that was no problem as they had a storage area on the 1st floor that we could keep our big pieces of luggage. The staff from the... More

This was our 3rd visit to The Pier Hotel on Saturday 9th August and once again we were not dissapointed! Some of the staff had changed but everyone was very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. It was good to see the lovely scottish lady called Caroline still working her socks off in the Bistro with a big... More

The Pier is the front of house for Harwich and does lots of things very well. Our room was clean, pleasantly decorated and had thoughtful welcoming touches for our arrival. Their Harbourside restaurant is fish-based (as you might expect) and the food is excellent, though pretty pricey (think Central London). Overall, stylish yet homely. Recommended.

Lovely hotel in an unusual setting. Found this hotel after daily telegraph recommendation. It is at the end of Harwich Pier and you can see the docks and port from the hotel. Sounds unusual, but actually provides an ever changing scenery with the sea, ships, yachts and ferrys loading/unloading and moving. We were in room 3, at the front of... More

We have just stayed at The Pier for two nights in the Mayflower Suite. Wow! is the only word to describe the suite. After a five mile walk in the morning we just sat in the window and relaxed. No need to read a book, the views of the pier are an ever moving picture. All amenities were top grade... More

Just spent two nights celebrating a good friends wedding. Made to feel very welcome by the excellent staff. Couldn't fault anything - food was superb & room was lovely. Will definitely return for fish n chips one evening soon.

After our Uniworld Bordeaux and Chateau River Cruise we flew to Gatwick and were driven to The Pier Hotel in Harwich. It is very old and looks just like the pictures, right on the pier. It did not disappoint us at all. Of course our room wasn't ready, and the dining room had a long wait being Sunday but they... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We thank you for your feedback, however we do not respond to individual comments. The Pier Hotel is located in two historic buildings that stand proudly on the quay side of old Harwich. The hotel's main building, built in the 1850's, houses two celebrated seafood restaurants - The Ha' Penny on the ground floor and the Harbourside on the first floor - and seven second-floor bedrooms, most of which overlook the estuary. The year 2000 saw the acquisition of the next door building, formerly the Angel public house, which dates back to the 1700's and is now fully refurbished and converted into a further seven bedrooms. All 14 bedrooms are carefully furnished with many individual touches and all have private bathrooms, satellite TV, minibars, telephone and welcome tea and coffee tray. In addition, the family-friendly feel of the hotel continues into the bedrooms with several of them offering sofa beds for accompanying children. ... more   less
