I stayed at the hotel continental for one night in a single room with my dog. It was perfect for a single nights stay after a long journey and getting off the ferry. The room was adequately sized for a single and the dog was comfortable on the floor, the room was also easily cooled with the open window and... More

Everything I've read is about right, it is in need of some attention due to the age of the property, although our rooms were immaculately clean and the décor in our rooms was like nothing we'd seen anywhere! The bedroom was calm, the bed super comfortable and we slept well. The entrance was lively with bold wall paper and cool... More

When looking for a place to sleep in Harwich because you booked the early morning ferry to the continent you're not spoiled for choice. And it's all rather expensive too - hence we booked a room in the Continental, the 'cheapest' option. I am sorry to say we were rather disappointed. A quirky place, yes, but rather dilapidated and smelly... More

Before I booked to stay at the Hotel Continental, I read a mixed selection of reviews here. Strangely enough, some of the negative ones actually helped me in choosing to try the place. My feeling is that the differing reactions to the Continental may, in part, be down to a matter of what the beholder thinks an hotel should be.... More

Stayed there Saturday night in room 7 as we were going to a wedding close by. We were showed to our room and the chap even offered to carry my bag, even when busy he was very polite, I think he may have been called Chan?, even when we managed to lock ourselves out of the room, as well as... More

This great old seaside inn has been lovongly restored, and each room uniquely decorated with no 2 rooms the same. The Pub/restaurant features a friendly laid back atmosphere and some of the best food I've had anywhere, particularly if you are vegetaian. The chef prepares each meal to order, so don't expect fast food, but it is well worth the... More

When we checked in they couldnt find our booking (made and confirmed with Booking .com) Eventually we got to a room but not before finding it very difficult to checkin and pay The hotel has American Express signs everywhere Even little American Express signs in the bedroom BUT on presenting my card I am promptly told 'We dont take American... Stayed here after booking.com let me down over my original registration elsewhere. Yes, reception is a little small and off-putting but the rooms are very clean; quirkily and originally decorated; bathrooms are very elegant (although the water pressure leaves a little to be desired) and the staff are friendly and extremely helpful. From the hotel it's an easy walk into... More

It's hard to categorise this hotel. There were times when I thought it was a dream. Reception is a cubby hole stacked with old boxes and trailing wires. Entrance is through a murky little bar with sticky carpets. The room had a wonderful seaview and some very quirky decor: half timbered features stuck on to crumbling plaster. The bathroom had... This is one of those quirky hotels that is hard to rate. The owners are clearly passionate about their rooms and have gone to great trouble to assign and decorate a theme to each room which I thought was unusual and good. We had a beach cabin theme with a wooden beach cabin within the room as the bathroom and... More
