The hotel is situated on the waterfront and our room had a view of the bay. The hotel appears to be run by a family. Our room, though small, was very neat and clean. We had two twin beds, each with its own TV. The small, compact bathroom had newer fixtures that all functioned well. the bathroom had been added... More

The owners (Gordon and Blossom) have been here for 17 years and the hotel reflects their values and interests;- quality, attention to detail, value for money, art, design AND excellent food. The hotel and restaurant are a work of love which is not obvious from the exterior. I know of nowhere else like this in the area. If you enjoy... More

My partner and I stayed here as a last minute trip due to the fact we were `child free`for a couple of nights. Blossom was so helpful when booking a room, we told her what rooms we liked the look of online and what we wanted from our trip and she advised us what she thought we might like. She... More

Real home-cooking in a delightful setting is on offer at the Hotel Continental, properly presented and prepared exactly as requested. It is a pleasure these days to be able to report excellent and honest food.

I stayed here for 2 nights for the Harwich International Sea Shanty Festival (highly recommended if you like the music!). The Continental fitted the bill perfectly. It is on the sea-front in Dovercourt, 20-25 minutes walk from Old Harwich. The room (room 3) didn't have any of the artwork, but was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom (with shower) was to... I was rescued by Blossom! Unfortunately, my company had booked some unsuitable accommodation for a woman working away and The Premier Inn recommended here. I was exhausted when I finally checked-in at 9.15pm, quite distressed, and grateful for Blossom's kindness. I love the hotels uniqueness, the fact that all the rooms are different with an arty feel, it makes such... More

I checked in the other day and ringed the bell for service after 15 minutes waiting a lady came to the reception and said we weren't expecting someone,I pre booked my room in advance 2 weeks ahead, but I must say she apologised right away saying that one day the fax was out of order which could be the cause she... I stayed with friends on a sailing trip. The themed rooms were clean , tidy and well looked after - new TV, free bottled water coffee etc. The staff were very attentive, welcoming and efficient while giving a comfortable feel to the place. Food is very good - particularly breakfast -good quality farm type ingredients. I have been to many... More

We stayed for one night, selecting it for closeness to the Harwich ferry port. We enjoyed both the sea view and the style of our room and common areas, including dining room, staircases and the small, active pub room. Everything we saw was in order and much, much tidier than I would expect for a two-star hotel at home (then... More

Many thanks for your positive review. We find the comparison between Italian grading and ours very interesting. Aspects of our hotel are 4 Star and most of it is 3 Star by Visit Britain standards featured in their recent report in July. Just a few areas fail us. For instance, staffing levels. To gain the extra star we would need... More

Personally I loved the quirkiness of this hotel, but then I loathe Travelodge and McDonalds. On the good side the views from the front are perfect - just straight onto the sea at the top of the cliffs, there are unexpected twists and turns and odd artworks embedded in the walls! On the bad side I have to say it... More

Thank you for your review. About the pipes: Alfred Lord Tennyson, Poet Laureate, I think it was him, described the human body as "a little city of sewers". With the human body not that many pipes are that visible, just the odd vein and other bits, but I look on the pipes as an extension of ourselves. Maybe to please... More
