My friend and I ate here 13.4.14 for lunch, The hotel it self was lovely, the decor tasteful, the food was delightful, However my only criticism is this , the staff were miserable, not one member of staff smiled. Their approach was harsh, unprofessional. They were unsure of things that I asked about. For this reason alone I would probably not... More

Saffron Walden is a pretty market town with many nice shops, and the nearby Audley End house is well worth a visit. The Saffron Hotel is centrally located on the High Street. Our room was clean and comfortable if a bit dated. The hotel has a decent pub/restaurant, and the food was better than I expected. Another reviewer cited "a... More

My husband and I stayed at this hotel on 21 st December 2013. In the morning the shower failed while I was in it, with the water first going cold then running down to a dribble. I was left covered in soap and cold. When we complained to the manager at breakfast time he went and looked and it worked.... More

Where do I start ? Six double parked spaces all taken by 1800 ie no parking available Vertiginous climb to Second floor room in attic. Tiny en suite shower room delivering only warm water. Loo wasn't plumbed into the mains so strict instructions and a £50 penalty for knot obeying them Television that didn't have a signal for a number... More

I've been working in Saffron Walden quite a bit this year, and have stayed in the Saffron Hotel 4 or 5 times. It's a strange place. The decor of the rooms is out of the 70s, and although the rooms are comfortable they are lacking in any sort of atmosphere. On a couple of occasions I've been overlooking the main... More

My single, en-suite room was through a maze of old-fashioned corridors and various stair-cases... this really is a weird old building (lots of character, you could say :-) Room was OK: bed, furnishing, shower-room etc. it was at the back of the building, so away from the noise of the traffic on the High Street at the front. The cooked... More

We went here for a meal on a visit to Saffron Walden. The bar/restaurant was very quiet at the time of our visit (early lunchtime). The service was prompt and courteous. Although we only had a sandwich it was served with a number of bread options and the filling was generous although it did not come with any accompaniements other... More
