We came across the Museum in a gudiebook while looking for somewhere to celebrate my girlfriend's 50th birthday with some friends. It seemed to meet our requirements, distance, price, location, good food and wine, etc. Having visited on a Sunday lunchtime to check it out and decided this as just what we wanted, we booked all of the 8 bedrooms... more

My wife and I dined here on Good Friday. We were staying elsewhere locally and so our comments are confined to the dining area. Apart from one other couple and a family birthday party, the restaurant was quiet, whilst the adjacent bar was virtually full. We understand that the inn is under relatively new management. A warm welcome was given... more

I have stayed at the museum many times in the past but have never been as satisfied with my stay as I now am! The new owners and management have done a wonderful job in improving The Museum in almost all aspects, one definitely being the friendly and welcoming environment it now provides! I would definitely suggest The Museum to... more

This quaint old pub/B&B is an excellent place to stay in a beautiful country area. It is very rural and close to Cranbourne Chase good for cycling, riding, walking etc. Our room (no 2) was large, nicely decorated with a comfy bed looking over the lane. We paid £120 a night which I think is not overpriced considering the room... more

My wife and I stayed at the Museum for 2 nights. On the basis that the room rate was on par with many 4 star hotels, we expected excellent service. However, we were completely shocked by the cold, unfriendly attitude of the receptionist. No chit chat, niceties or welcome. We stayed in the General's room which had poor lighting, inadequate... more

Last stop on our holiday in the south-west of England, we arrived here at 5.30pm after a nightmare car journey from St Mawes to find... a very abrupt woman who without any chit-chat, pleasantries or reminders of when dinner was or breakfast was served lead us to our room and disappeared. Dinner was great, although it was a bit cold... more

Booked a table for 9 for sunday lunch after visiting their web site. When we arrived the menu was completly different and more expensive. Decided to stay and order. Then told three of the main corses were sold out, this was only 1pm !!. After a wait of 1.25 hours the food arrived. Asked for more gravy with the roast... more

We have just returned from a weekend at the Museum Inn. My partner selected this place from Alistair Sawdays Special Places to Stay book. My initial reaction on approaching the Museum Inn was what a beautiful and idyllic location. There's nothing there other than the Museum Inn and one thatched house after the other - it certainly is a picture... more

Just stayed at this hotel and I would advise you to stay away from this place. Rooms very basic for the price but check your booking first as the lady owner is the only one that is allowed to book a room and she can take days to confirm. Check your dates as these are often wrong, they were in my... more

Just a word of warning to those who suffer in the heat! We arrived for one night on a very warm summer day and all the rooms were blisteringly hot -like walking into an oven with no fans to cool you, which made for a very uncomfortable nights sleep. However, they were all very clean with lovely decor and nice... more
