We had a very friendly welcome and chose one of the specials. It was tasty and well cooked but there just wasn't enough of it. The cheese board afterwards was lovely, however, and there was plenty of it.

Today was our third visit to The Cricketers and after each visit I think that it should have been better than it was. The specials menu was small and interesting, the waitress was friendly, but the meal was just a tad ordinary. Today's vegetables were mainly carrots and they should have been piping hot rather than lukewarm. It is better... More

We were en route for a PGL holiday at Ossmington Bay when we stopped for a late lunch. It's off the main road and you have to look for the sign on the tree to turn left at the cross roads but well worth the diversion. I can not begin to say how great the food was - perfectly cooked... More

Great food freshly prepared even made room for pud! Although the kids cookie dough was too much for me! I chose onglet, unusual taste but very nice. Kids had fish and chips which they all wolfed down. Hubby had traditional steak which was tasty. In the words of our 9 year old " the staff were really nice". Would definitely... More

Had a great Sunday Lunch with family. The food was of a high standard and very well presented - not pretentious. The ginger sponge pudding was out of this world. Three generations and five very clean plates. Well done to you all.

Took a ride up the A350 on Sunday out of Poole towards Shaftsbury on Sunday to give the car a blast and happened to see a sign for the Cricketers so feeling a bit peckish, decided to have a Sunday roast there. For me, being a Midlands bird, this was a slice of heaven. Proper pub with a warm welcome,... More

I've been here a few times now visiting friends in the area, warm welcome, comfy bar, good pub food and friendly & helpful staff, not much more you could want really? Beer garden is great on the warm afternoon too!

It is difficult to find nice pubs in Dorset. They are either functionally commercial, twee-and usually overpriced. What a delight then to discover this gem, hidden away in the lovely village of Shroton. Nice welcoming atmosphere, excellent selection of unusual ales, and great stonking portions of food, with that understated elegance which denote an accomplished chef. Went on a busy... More

My wife and I recently dined here for the first time in years and what a very pleasant surprise we had. Mine hosts, Joe and Sally, have been extremely successful in creating a pub that, while maintaining the core attributes of a village pub, offers a dining experience that is as far removed from standard "pub grub" as it's possible... Visiting the nearby Shillingstone Railway Station project and found this in the Good Pub guide. It's not hard to see why this gets into this reliable Guide. Excellent range of cask beers, reasonable selection of up-market food (menu and specials) and an acceptable wine list. I had a very nice piece of rib-eye steak cooked medium rare as requested with...
