A couple of years ago we stayed here and found this place to be quirky but fun. This year it felt rundown and fairly depressing. The owner spent most of the time moaning about other people's negative reactions to staying there. True - it's fairly cheap and you get what you pay for in life, but Youth Hostels are about... More

The room sleeps 14. There is one bathroom with shower. Everything is clean and the living areas are packed with local information. Moretonhampstead is very small, and Sparrowhawk is within 2 minutes walk from all the pubs and shop. There is no wifi and phone signal is sketchy.

Will go again for Defo. Ali the owner was very welcoming and played cool music too😃 My mate and me stopped in double room which has 2 beds and is in the owners house which is interesting and charming too. The dorms are across a nice courtyard the communal kitchen is there too. The kitchen was very well equipped and... More

The host Ali is a very friendly and helpfull person. We stayed for two nights in this beautifull and enchanting hostel. The dormitory is cozy and clean. The kitchen is big, open and really lovely and equipped with all you need. The bathroom is small but clean.

This place is just lovely! Ali, the owner was very friendly, trusting, relaxed and helpful. The facilities were simple, comfortable, clean and functional. The bunkhouse is light and airy, the beds compfy and the shower is hot and has good pressure! As a solo female backpacker in her early twenties, I found this place really comfortable, safe, had loads of... More

There was nobody around when we arrived. I had virtually decided to try to find somewhere else when we did get in. There were not enough sheets on the beds so I had to help myself to some from the washing line. The proprietor clearly was not interested in us and only spoke to me when she thought we were... More

We arrived to an unattended establishment. Although booked in there was no one there. We went for a cup of tea elsewhere and on returning still no one on attendance to show us where to sleep. The place looked neglected , run down and we left to find a B and B instead. One of the worst backpackers hostels vr.

I spent two nights in Ali's Hostel and it was amazing. The place has such a great atmosphere and Ali is just the most kind person. The facilities are excellent: the dorm is comfy, the kitchen clean and has all you need. Toilets and showers work excellently and are tip top clean. If you like hostels that have their own... More

Having cycled across Dartmoor, the hostel was a welcome sight. We stayed in the bunk barn. Cooking facilities were basic but all available, same applies to shower and bunkroom. We didn't have any drying facilities, which was disappointing. However, it was a happy, interesting place and good value for money.
