We can only say that the previous 'great' reviews still apply in 2009. The bed was more comfortable than our home one. The room delightful. The owners delightful. The location delightful. The breakfast delightful. We will oganise coming for dinner next time... more

We booked a weekend break for our friends and ourselves about a month or so ago for the 12th to the 15th December. I spoke to Sarah-Jane on the phone with a few final queries and on speaking to her booked straight away because she was so pleasant and helpful, and may I say it Genuine. At last the weekend... more

Sarah Jane & Neil treat you as if you had entered their own home & that they had known you for years. The welcome is very warm and the food outstanding. Their plans for the hotel give the impression that detail is paramount. If you are looking for peace & quite, warmth and friendly service in a charming location. Look... more

Yarcombe is a lovely part of the world - and well worth a trip through. Having read some of the reviews here I'd have to say I agree with the more negative ones. I've just returned from travelling around the south west I'm sorry to say that this was my least favourite place to visit. There's no disputing that it's... more

The Belfry is the old village school house dating back to the 1870’s, which was built by the descendents of Sir Francis Drake. As one of the key buildings in the centre of the village, the hotel has an imposing location opposite the 13th Century church and possibly older pub, The Yarcombe Inn. We are in very rural location with...

We recently spent three nights at The Belfry and found both the owners and the hotel very welcoming. The room was cosy, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed breakfast each morning. The fried bread in particular was a firm favourite! We enjoyed breakfast so much we decided to book a meal for the saturday... more

Finding this hotel on the internet and looking at what was on offer - i.e. nice rooms, good location, restaurant on site - all sounded lovely - a perfect place to stay ! However, on arrival (which was a Saturday), we were told there was no food available for the evening - something that wasn't mentioned at the time of... more

We have received the most amazing and excellent feedback in our first 12 months here at The Belfry and are really grateful to everyone that posts their experiences online for other future guests to view. You can imagine therefore how shocked we were to receive this feedback. It just took a few hours of lost sleep to work out who...

This is our second stay at the Belfry and it won't be our last. On our first stay (Oct 2007) the room was clean and comfortable but being on the ground floor was slightly noisy. Our second stay was in the Wordsworth room (upstairs) and the room was lovely with lots of character and was much quieter. The hosts are... more

The Belfrey is a lovely little hotel run by a very pleasant couple. They both seemed to work very hard and I got the impression that nothing was too much trouble. The room offered everything that you could ask for and it was nice to see little extras that you do not get in most hotels: huge bath towels, robes,... more
