Refreshing to see a real pub with real people in it. Good ale, good food - you can tell it was fresh as it did not turn up 5 mins after it was ordered, it took a reasonable time to get to us and well worth the wait. Staff friendly and the locals eat here so it can't be that... More

Noticed the reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to go for Sunday lunch the day after we arrived on holiday (staying in Slapton) Well you need your wits about finding the place, country lanes all the way but well worth the effort. Had a nice welcome as we walked in and were shown to our table as we booked earlier in... More

Six of us stopped off for an evening meal. We were greeted by a lovely lady who found us a table in the new darts area as the dining area was full. Locals really friendly and chatty. Food good value for money. Traditional village pub with old fashioned decor.

This has to be they very best Country Inn that we we have ever stayed in. Our visit was as an extended family. We occupied three splendid rooms - myself and husband, our daughter and family including two young boys, and our son with his wife and baby. Each room was entirely suited to our needs. Ours was rather smaller... More

My partner & I, including 4 children under 6years of age, stayed at the George on good Friday/15, for 1 night only (thankfully). Upon arrival everything seemed OK at first glance. The lady at the bar checked me in and showed me to my room, she struggled to crack a smile though. Room seemed ok, so collected kids and got... More

Very welcoming when I arrived. All staff were polite and the locals were lovely and welcoming too. Our room was small but was happy with it as it was big enough for myself and my little one. Will quite happily stay again.

Although difficult to find, it was worth the effort. We arrived the evening of the village's firework night & the pub was packed. We were shown to our room which was small but perfect for our needs with a spotless en-suite. We decided to go back down to the packed pub which gradually emptied as the fireworks were due to... We stayed here following a visit to Woodlands, which is a two minute drive away. The traditional exterior of this Inn may reflect the bar but certainly not the rooms, which are modern and spotlessly clean. Our en-suite appeared to be recently refurbished to a high standard with a large walk-in shower unit. The family room was a decent size... More

Thank you for taking the time and effort to write such an in depth review. As you've pointed out the traditional exterior reflects the bar, some love, some hate this fact. Traditional pub bars are a dying breed. We apologise for the noise from the bar but we do try our best to make sure noise levels are kept to... More
