The hotel is extremely expensive and the bar prices very dear indeed. True, the location is spot on but for the money we expected something a little more luxurious. I think we probably stayed in the same room as Ward71 from the description and have to agree with his comments. The sea view is stunning but the room itself nothing... More

After travelling around Cornwall staying in various types of accommodation we decided to book here for a bit of luxury. Our room was £90 with breakfast. Agree the room was quaint with a fabulous view of the sea. However it was in the attic accessed by very steep stairs. Bed comfy but very soft. New bathroom. Decor was poorly finished... More

We were touring the area in a seven meter camper van and liked the look of the Port Gaverne Hotel as we entered the village. We decided it would be a great place for an evening meal and also an ideal spot for parking up overnight. We had not planned this stop, and had not found a camp site, but... More

I've stayed at The Port Gaverne three times in the last 30 years and it never fails to delight. The new owners have updated the hotel without losing any of its charm - a feat so many other hoteliers in Cornwall have failed to achieve. Our room was cosy, comfortable, warm and furnished simply but tastefully. Other rooms were undergoing... More

A return to the Port Gaverne after a change of ownership and a refurbishment left a slight question of what we would find. Relax, the hotel has been upgraded in terms of decor and furnishings but none of the quirky charms are lost. The rooms are not enormous and the stairs are steepish but you will be well rewarded.Comfortable beds... More

Port Winchester We have been staying at or visiting the privately owned Port Gaverne Hotel for over 30 years and were surprised to find the it was now owned by St Austell Breweries. First impression was not great, for instead of a dedicated Reception, there was an ad hoc arrangement behind the bar, which was deserted when we arrived at... More

We have been visiting the area for nearly 50 years and local homeowners for 25 of them. We visited Port Gaverne for a meal last week and were very disappointed. We were pleased to see that the general ambience of the hotel has not changed following its refurbishment, and the new restaurant manager is a step in the right direction,... More

Stayed in January for one night with our dog Molly and had a wonderful stay. Room was clean and had Sky TV. Public areas were dog friendly and old world Cornish charm. Staff were very helpful and friendly and food was superb if a little pricey. Would definitely recommend it for a Cornish break and we will definitely be returning... More

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a shooting trip. My room was large, comfortable and generally clean. The only faults were a long hair on the pillow slip (not one of mine) and a drink glass stain on the bedside cabinet (which I cleaned off). Apart from that my only complaint was that the shower ran out of... More

We stayed here for two nights recently and were not impressed by the hotel's cuisine. It seems strange to have the same menu in the restaurant as in the bar, and one that is very limited for choice. If you like chips a lot it may suit. My wife was not at all well after eating the fish pie so... More
