A return visit to the Vic - have they improved their act since last time? Well, this time we stayed at Cuckoo Lodge, a rustic 2-bed cottage out in the wilds of the estate. Wood burning stove and Aga, breakfast items left in the fridge, and self-catering otherwise. The cottage is absolutely lovely - although so draughty the stove and... more

Enjoyed our stay at Palner's Lodge on Holkham estate - quirky but nice accommodation, with excellent breakfast foodstuff to make your own ( pity about the dirty grillpan when we went to make our breakfast !). Dinner in the restaurant was poor and the attiutude of the waiter " no one else has complained " was unbelieveable! Mistakes made on... more

We stayed at the Palmer's Lodge for several nights. . . quirky, fun, isolated. It was a great short stay. But not for those looking for a conventional hotel experience. No king-sized beds and minibars here. But waking up in the middle of a game preserve is a very relaxing and somewhat unusual hotel experience. Given some of the recent... more

Fantastic booking process and when I added an extra touches 'champagne on ice', it was there in the room awaiting our arrival. The grounds are incredible and the deer park was breathtaking. The West Arch is wonderful, truely made for romance. However, be warned, you need to be fit. The kitchen is on the ground floor, the shower room on... more

Staff were helpful on booking and explained described each of the available rooms to help us make the best choice. Check-in was welcoming and efficient and included an explanation of available facilities and help with the bags. The room was charming, clean and full of character. Wonderful views over the garden and marshes. Bar staff were friendly and welcoming when... more

Stayed overnight after Elton John concert at Holkham Hall. Room no 1 was really nice and spacious and we were made very welcome. After a late supper we sat in the general sofa area and our really good mood changed immediateley .......it really was the most strange feeling neither of us could speak, we changed our seats as we felt... more

I'm sorry.....not much I can do about the "bad vibes" you experienced in our Lounge. I can honestly say it's the first time I have heard that. But delighted you enjoyed the Elton John concert at the Hall that evening, and that all other aspects of your stay at the Vic were a success.

Having read some recent damning reviews about the Victoria, we had some trepidation about our booking. However, the reality for us was so different. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was clean and smart with the most comfortable bed and good linen. Fresh milk for tea/coffee. Superb breakfast and stylish dinners. Special thanks to the waiting staff and... more

Thanks for your kind review, and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. You mentioned that it would be nice to have a simpler meal for dinner if you are a guest staying for longer than a couple of nights. This should always be possible and the chefs are willing to oblige customers if there are any requests even though dinner...

Great Food. Eat there, but see the rooms before you pay or stay. Our attic room was greatly overpriced - it was charged at the same rate as the beautiful Indian rooms on the first floor. Very comfortable bed with good linen, with good sized room and nice big bathroom. But no dressing table. And sockets are at the opposite... more

I have read your review a number of times and thank you for your objective views. You have complimented us on many scores such as the good food and aspects of the bedroom such as the confortable bed and large bathroom. I accept the other criticisms and we are doing our best to rectify them through our refurbishment programme, and...

I had high hopes for this hotel and have wanted to stay here for ages but I wish it wouldn’t call itself a hotel: in my view it’s a pub with rooms, albeit one that charges four or five star hotel prices. First impressions weren’t great as the reception area - which isn’t really a reception, it’s a tiny cubbyhole... more

I went here after a very busy period at work with my girlfriend. After a long tiring drive down dark country lanes we finally arrived on a cold November evening. We settled down for the evening before we emerged to the pine forest and beach - this is what we were here for. If you check websites you will see... more
