We stayed on the nights of 8th & 9th August whilst visiting friends nearby. First impressions on arrival - "What have we done"?? The hotel is generally presented both externally & internally in a shabby and unkempt manner and the staff are totally indifferent and "couldn't care less". We arrived at 7.15pm after a 150 mile journey and when we... more

Arrived at the Bell for a one night business stay. Reception and check in was fine, rooms a bit basic but clean and the beds very comfortable. Dinner in restaurant was slow service (one girl on for 15 tables), and the food was patchy, the ceasar salad was not great but the salmon dish was fabulous. As was breakfast in... more

First impressions on arrival were optomistic - on river and from outside looked promising. Room overlooked the river which was nice but bathroom very shabby with rusty chrome fittings. Went down for a drink in the evening and sat in the draughty bar(had glass missing in window pane)which was most unwelcoming. After about 9pm we were the only people in... more

The website looked good. But the hotel was disappointing when we arrived. The bar prices were far more expensive than we had expected, the room was shabby and bathroom was dirty. Cobwebs, etc. The whole hotel needed decorating and new furniture. Staff were helpful more

Needed a 1 night stay in Thetford and settled on the Bell Hotel. I'd stayed in an "Old english inn" before and the experience was pretty similar. Clearly, when renovated the hotel was smart. Unfortunately it has suffered at the hands of time. Our room was large and well appointed with good quality furnishings. Unfortunately, the walls were scuffed and... more

I'm writing this in the hope that someone from Greene King might read it. We celebrated New Year's Eve at The Bell. We found the food very good and the staff pleasant and hard-working. The disco was o.k. and all in all, for the money we paid, we felt we'd had good value. However, our room was shabby with little... more

Room, food all OK. Insufficient number of staff but almost all who were there worked liked slaves and generally with resigned good humour. Evening was OK because we - a party of 8 - made the most of it but the disco was dreadful. The self-proclaimed DJ - though he did little to justify the description - constantly played loud,... more

The hotel had been booked as part of a group and it wasn't until after confirmation we looked at Trip Advisor and the hotel has clearly done nothing to improve. Reception staff were fine when we did a pre book in luggage dump, but sadly, as later delegates arrived and luggage was littered all over Reception the response was a... more

This hotel wasn't bad. The room was a bit dated in decor, but although a little tatty in places (e.g. the peeling paint in the bathroom) the original features kind of made up for it. I don't think I'd go as far as to say it was charming, but it certainly wasn't enough to make me regret choosing this hotel.... more

Stayed here for thetford forest music event, paid £90 for a double room, found hotel very tired & shabby, room very small double bed even smaller, room very dark dingy & tired, burnt foot with boiling water from kettle due to bad access to sockets, breakfast was a nightmare, unfriendly staff disgustingly cold breakfast which was inediable & sent back... more
