when we drove over the bridge and saw the hotel, which is huge, we were somewhat dissapointed. a weathered board on th wall, it just looked unkept. We went in to the reception & was greeted by the manager Stuart. a warm welcome awaited us. directed to our room, which was very clean, comfortable & had a fantastic bed, the... more

We had a group visit of 17 for a two night stay in late September. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a group meal on the Friday evening which was well cooked and served piping hot. We thought the meal was good value. Breakfasts were good also. The staff members are really helpful and hard working. The brewery needs... more

Yes it is obvious that The Bell could do with a refurbishment, it has not been fully decorated for decades, but it has atmosphere in spades, and Stuart and his staff are just brilliant and to be honest make the place. A very friendly welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was tasty and well cooked with a... more

AFTER booking to stay at The Bell I read some really offputting reviews. However having just returned form our weekend stay I can honestly we had no problems at all. I can see that decor/ carpets in public areas need updating. But our room and the cheerful helpful staff more than made up for these minor irritations. To be honest... more

Stayed here taking advantage of a special promotion which was very good value for a look around Norfolk. The hotel has seen better days and needs a lot of attention but is still clean and tidy. The rooms seem to have been refurbished and were fine although our bed was not the greatest. Still it was quiet and we slept... more

Just spent two nights here as I was holidaying in the area and visiting an old friend. I had planned to stay at the Thomas Paine (about 400 yards up the road) as it was closer to my friends house but despite emailing and ringing several time I got no reply. Having read the reviews on here I am very... more

We arrived on the morning of Saturday 15th August and had serious doubts about our choice of hotel due to the poor external maintenance of this once beautiful historic building.....however upon entering, the Reception staff were welcoming and helpful, with that we decided to stay and give the hotel a chance. We had a superior room which was VERY clean... more

The hotel s looking tired but refurbishment appears to be underway. However, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food fine so when the place has been done up a bit, I'm sure it will improve its ratings (especially as the Olde English Inns brand usually delivers excellent quality and value for money.) more

We stayed at the Bell Hotel with our dog (George) for one Saturday night following a trip to Norwich. From the minute we arrived at reception, the staff were friendly, welcoming and cheerful. We had an excellent room, light, clean and bright, comfy beds and spotlessly clean.Yes, some of the stair & corridors areas need a facelift, but they were... more

We recently returned from a weekend break at The Bell which we thoroughly enjoyed, so much so I felt compelled to write a review to compare with some prevoious less favourable reviews. Sure there is room for improvement to the building it is after all old, something though we were looking for before we booked and given the current state... more
