I stayed here with the whole family as part of my Dad's 60th birthday. The hotel itself is really very nice and they have done a great job of making it as homely as possible. My parents stayed in the main room at the top of the house, which was extremely large, with a separate kitchen and living room. This... more

Just had a long week-end break at the Black Swan with a group of friends. We hadn't stayed there for 10 years so we were looking forward to seeing the changes. Everything was fine overall. Rooms were very agreeable - clean, comfortable and with good quality bathroom cosmetics. Price-wise it's on a par with similar establishments in the Lakes and... more

We were delighted that Bill and his group enjoyed their stay with us and would enjoy visiting with us again. Regarding the comments on us not having a residents lounge - we are not an hotel, but a village Inn and our guests are aware when they book - from our very detailed internet site - that we do not...

After finding this Hotel during last summer just by following some very attractive signs we decided that we must have a break in such lovely surroundings enjoying such a great concept, lovely looking Hotel/ Inn incorporating a village pub and little shop a 'hub' for enjoyment for guests as well as people living in the village. The Hotel has been... more

Had previously called into the Black Swan pub for a drink on the way back from the lakes and loved the cosy atmosphere so decided to stay and overnight stay the following year. We took the dog so were given one of the outside rooms and it was more than acceptable. Spent the evening in the pub and had a... more

Booked a table for sunday lunch, purely on the strength of the previous reviews. Louise informed me that the dining room was full, due to 2 private parties, but we would be welcome to dine in the bar area. Not a problem, i replied. We drove nearly 3 hours to reach the Black Swan and given we we were late... more

I stayed at the Black Swan with my partner as a birthday break. Upon learning this, the very friendly and approachable owners upgraded us from our already lovely room to an even better room. The atmosphere at the hotel was great, with an open fire, friendly and helpful staff and very high quality food in the restaurant. This is one... more

My wife and I, with young child and my partents enjoyed our visit in April. Great food, beer and nice rooms, backed up by very friendly and helpful staff, in one of our favourite areas of the UK. A very minor point is that they could do with more than one high-chair for children but that in no way detracted.... more

Just got home from our weekend trip. Had a great time at The Black Swan. Lovely hotel, beautifully decorated and staff are excellent. The food I have to say is the main outstanding feature, their smoked haddock with creamy mash, wilted spinach, soft poached egg and cheese hollandaise sauce is to die for. All in all a great hotel for... more

We stayed here for my Dad's surprise 60th birthday weeknd and had a lovely time (stayed one night). We stayed in one of the courtyard rooms with our dog and my brother and his girlfriend stayed in the other courtyard room with their dog! And my parents stayed in the main hotel. The hotel knew it was a surprise for... more

Unlike the previous reviewer, we loved the Black Swan. We stopped overnight on the way north to Scotland for Xmas & were so impressed that we booked in again on the way back. The first room was the last available & the only one that is not en suite, which was rather inconvenient - try to reserve one of the... more
