We were greeted by Denise when we arrived about 8.30pm and shown the communal area and the facilities. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you would expect, the communal area, part of the old church, feels spacious and inviting. The balcony is a great extra feature and a good place to sit and relax with friends without being in... More

This hostel is on the route of the coast-to-coast walk and therefore has a rapid turnover of walkers and cyclists, all of whom are near exhaustion when they appear in the evening. I came upon it by chance as a solo traveller and it was just the most fantastic and friendly place to stay. It is situated in a former... More

The YHA used to own this hostel, a converted church, but it is now owned and run by Denise who is as easy going as it is possible to be. Staying there is cheap so do not be surprised that it is pretty basic. However, it is very clean, spacious and has everything most people would need. On one night... More

We stayed here on our coast to coast walk. We were met with a friendly welcome and a nice cup of tea. Great after a long day walking from shap. I was even given a new walking pole after breaking mine! The old church was clean, comfortable and relaxed. I would stay here again

A large group of us stayed here a few weeks back whilst cycling the coast to coast. After a very tiring day on the bike we got a very warm welcome. Denise put on some lovely food in the evening and cooked breakfast. I managed to leave a jumper behind, but Denise was very kind to organise for it to... More

Just returned from our second very enjoyable family trip to the Hostel. Asked my girls (aged 11 and 12 years) why they like it so much and they said it is just so friendly and they feel completely at home. They love the big lounge/dining area as you can talk to people and 'enjoy their company' (their words) OR you... More

A very kind host allowed us to freshen up in the Hostel on our way through. The hostel was very clean, tidy and fresh with wonderful charm! It was right in the centre of the shops, and had brilliant facilities. Highly recommended to all!

I stayed here with my partner and another couple - it was the perfect pit stop in our coast to coast itinerary. We managed to get 2 rooms, both private but with interconnecting doors and shower facilities. We love the fact that the main santuary of the church has been kept - it makes the hostel unique and utterly charming.... More

We arrived at the hostel just after 6pm after a bad day attempting the W2W bike ride. Denise quickly sorted out rooms, cycle storage, drying room, showers, etc. We had pre-booked a two course meal which arrived as planned at 7pm. The meal was first class - £12 for two courses was a bargain in our opinion. Comfortable beds, good relaxing... More
