We really enjoyed our stay here. Stopped en route to Robin Hood's Bay whilst walking the Coast to Coast path. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough to help. They made us feel very welcome. It's a great little stop off for walkers doing the Coast to Coast path. If I'm ever in the area again I will... More

We stopped here during our coast to coat on the bikes and I cant really fault the place. Very welcoming and hospitable, lovely building, comfy beds and a great breakfast. Happy days. Kirkby also has plenty of places to eat and drink, just hard to fault.

Just finished running a Hill and Moorland Award course based from the hostel and from Kirkby Stephen Hostel. What a great location this is, offering a fantastic variety of landscapes within easy travelling distance from the bleak and beautiful Howgils, the complex terrain of the Shap Hills and the limestone of the Orton Fells. The hostel is great and Denise... More

We arrived mid afternoon, before the hostel was supposed to be open, but Denise saw us sitting outside and welcomed us in. The welcome was warm, the room clean, and the shower thankfully lovely and hot. A good cost effective option for the Coast to Coast which can end up costing quite a bit!

Amazing building, the beautiful flower arrangements on the front steps was well kept. When we entered the building it smelt musty. The toilet could have done with bleaching. The bedroom also had a musty smell it looked tired, bedding was very old and did not smell fresh at all. The blind on the window should be replaced.Saying all this, i must... More

We arrived at the Hostel late on a Wednesday and having contacted Denise on the phone let ourselves in to find this amazing building - a former church - with hot showers, comfy beds and a beautiful communal dining/lounge and kitchen. Denise has been incredibly helpful and we have dog-sat Meg the spaniel.

During our Coast to Coast walk we stopped here midway. We were very tired and thankfully it was right opposite the Co-op. We had an ensuite room which was just what we needed with a very hot shower. Breakfast was fantastic too. A really great budget addition to the accomodation choice at Kirkby Stephen.

My brother and I had a good stay at the hostel. I is a beautiful building and we had a peaceful stay. The twin room was basic, but sufficient for our needs. We have stayed before and would stay again in the future.

Travelling with 8 girlfriends on a cycling trip we stopped here a night. Wonderful home cooking both for supper and breakfast. We had a room for 8 - bunk beds and a connecting bathroom. Good value and friendly and a lock up cycle store. It is in an old chapel and you sit in the pews to eat. You can... More

About two months ago I was one of the thousands that embarks on the Coast to Coast walk, and eventually it all blurs together as memories of sheep, aching legs, beer, awkward hail storms, and beds to sleep in. This place is one that stands out in my memory and will not blur or be forgotten! I rocked up a... More
