My husband and I stayed at the Sun Inn to celebrate my birthday and we couldn't have chosen better. From the minute we arrived to our departure we had a wonderful time. The pub is very cosy and inviting with two real fires and the room was furnished to provide all modern facilities including a dog bowl and towel.......they are... more

We arrived on a cold and foggy night early in December. The village was decked out with christmas trees and decorations. The narrow streets of the old town are just bursting with character. We stayed in a deluxe room (Room 10) on the second floor. The room is warm, modern and well equipped. It had a flatscreen tv on the... more

Four of us stayed last weekend occupying Rooms 4 & 7, everything was very good. On the first night we couldn't get a table in the restaurant so ate in the bar, we enjoyed it so much we opted for the bar on the second night! more

Very charming proprietress showed us to very comfortable foom overloking churchyard. Although clock chimes through the night, sounds ares soft and reassuring rather than irritating! Drinks in the lively bar were folowed by an excellent dinner . Breakfast too was good and served quickly. A dedinite "stop" to remember more

We had a really enjoyable stay and we'll definitely be back for anniversaries. We particularly like the room we stayed in (7 - I think) as the view over the church and it's cemetery is lovely (if a cemetery can be classed as lovely?) All of the furnishings and fittings were of a really high standard and it felt very... more

Stayed at the Sun Inn - booked a week in advance over the phone with the hotel owner - as we stayed Sat and Sun one night was cheaper than the other, as the better deal only kicked in on the Sunday. Couldn't get a table for Saturday night in the restaurant but had a very good meal tucked away... more

Stayed here last in 1969 - it has changed! An excellent hotel - nothing major faulted - we would certainly stay here again - parking is a bit awkward right in the town centre - read the ticket machine notices in the car parks closely! - hotel map is printed upside down - south at the bottom. Town is pretty... more

Had a weekend break in Kirkby during June and stayed at the Sun. Good decision. Classy room, nice bathroom. Spotlessly clean. The pub was lively but not loud and the meal we had in the restaurant was top class in every respect. Kirkby itself is a buzzy market town with at least 2 decent restaurants, we eat in the Avanti... more

Aug 25, 2009 | Trip type: Family

We stopped overnight on the way to Scotland. The hotel kindly made up a family room for four with our dog. The decor of the room was modern and settled into the period features that had been retained. The bar was traditional and relaxed with good ales and good service. Check in and out was relaxed and pleasant. Very nice... more

I have just come back from a two night stay at the Sun Inn and found it to be a lovely B&B which had a great feel, great staff and superb food! We arrived later than planned in the most awful weather and were struggling slightly with finding somewhere to park (the only critism is parking but to be fair... more
