Visited recently for dinner, having heard good things about it. The staff were very attentive and the food was really lovely, better than we expected. The wine was also really good. We ordered a tapas style sharing plate for starter, steak for mains and chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding for dessert - all were delicious! The food was extremely... More

My partner and I stayed here for one night only as we were heading to Newbury. The lady in the reception was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome, also very helpful in telling us what to do and where to go around town. The restaurant and bar area is most modern with nice decor,The outside has a court... More

We spent two nights at The Bear Hotel recently. We stayed in Bear Island with our dog and found the room to be very comfortable. A pretty outlook overlooking the stream and garden. The bathroom was basic but very clean. All the staff were so welcoming and we will definitely go back there. The only thing I would change would... More

Stayed one night in March while on a cycling tour of the area. When we arrived it was dark and we were wet, met by friendly and welcoming staff. The hotel had a secure room for us to store our wet bikes. Rooms were nice enough and the heating soon dried out our wet clothes. Shower was warm enough and... More

Thank you for your review. It is great to hear that you found The Bear to be good value and very welcoming. We are however disappointed to hear that one of the meals in your group was not warm enough and further coaching has now been provided to the team members involved. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.... More

Had an excellent weekend at The Bear for a birthday celebration, in all there were 21 of us staying there. The rooms were clean with good showers, our room number 8, had an amazing bath in the room, sadly we didn't get to use it, but the room was fantastic. We had dinner for us all on Saturday evening and... More

Clean friendly and a great breakfast! The location was perfect for me as I was visiting the Hungerford area. The downside was I asked for a meal without onions or garlic and they got it wrong by adding a chilli sauce with garlic to the meal.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are pleased to hear that you found your stay to be good value but devastated that your meal was incorrect. We often stay at Old English Inns on offer breaks as it means getting away for a weekend regularly. They have all been much the same, shabby and tired but mostly clean and acceptable for the price paid. The Bear is different. The staff were friendly, the hotel was spotless and our room in the courtyard overlooking the stream, pleasant... More

Thank you to the management and staff for an excellent stay at The Bear last week. We were made welcome by all - including the cat. Good hearty breakfast and evening menu had plenty of choice. We are already looking forward to staying with you again, but a different location this time. Dennis and June. Flintshire

Arrived on Friday. We were in room 37. Large comfy warm room with lovely view of garden and river, Food was spot on and service was fast and friendly. A couple of problems in my stepson's room were sorted within half an hour. Dog was made so welcomed and we will be visiting this hotel again.
