Described to us a Fuedal Castle the house is located overlooking Chaves, it's valley and surrounding vineyards. It sits in its own grounds with fruit trees and vegetable garden. Guests are encouraged to try any fruit that is in season and it has it's own spring water. Rooms are furnished in style with the surroundings and the original doors and... More

The Casa is situated on a hill overlooking the town of Chaves. We were greeted by the owner with a glass of wine. The owner speaks a little English, though his wife does not, though we did communicate in French - not a criticism, just makes asking about the local specialities we were served a little more difficult! The room... More

Truly one of the more remarkable places on earth. Time stops when you drive into the long granite driveway. The sound of happy birds and running water soothed my soul. The view is incredible. Ask to have a meal prepared with a bottle if wine... Wow. There is nice pool with a great view. Host/ owner couldn't be more charming.

A perfect stay away from the hub bub of the city. Very rural but the rooms / bed / bathroom were as comfortable as city living. Very impressed with the accommodations...the restoration of the building was beautifully done. Great breakfast (try the Chaves pastries - yum!) Service was great...very personable! Will absolutely recommend and stay again!

After a very long road trip from Santander we arrived at Quinta da Mata to be greeted by the owner of this charming establishment set high above Chaves, with amazing views. We were shown to our room which was delightful and given a lovely glass of port and homemade biscuits. He recommended a restaurant a bit further up the mountain... More

We stayed at Quinta da Mata for one day while visiting the town of Chaves. We were welcomed by the owner who was friendly and very personable. He recommended a few places both nearby and in Chaves for dinner. He was right on the mark with his recommendations. We were extremely impressed with the accommodations. The room had an old... More

Not located in the hub of a touristy area, the Quinta is a very nice place, about 5 km out of town with a fine view. Easily reachable, it is still very rural and quiet. The front room is huge and very atmospheric. Breakfasts are a huge table full of goodies: bread, rolls, pastries, cheeses, homemade jams, cakes, coffee, etc.... More

The place is nice and clean, but it is not so good as described, the breakfast is poor as well as the attention to the client. The welcome is good, several activities seems available, but then the main business of the quinta seems to be more the big events and not the attention to little client. the breakfast is all... More

We stayed for a week. Weather was warm, so we spent a couple hours each day at their pool. The maids brought us cherries and wine and pastries and we didn't even ask for them. We requested dinner there a couple times after seeing how gorgeous the breakfasts were. Good value on the food - impressive quantity and really, really... More

The owners and staff went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. An endless supply of great tasting food is provided at each and every meal. The rural farm setting only adds to the overall experience. The adjacent town of Chaves is steeped in history, from a 2000 year old Roman bridge to hot mineral springs. I would... More
