The Casa da Calçada is a 200 years old manor which was converted into a hotel. The location is charming, right in downtown of Amarante, with view over the Douro River, the church and the old bridge. The hotel is comfortable and full of little details, old objects, paintings, etc. Our room on the 3rd floor was facing the city... More

having read the reviews for the Casa da calcada I thought it would already all have been said; but I don't think it has! This is a very lovely hotel with an old fashioned, slow-paced feel. The colours are warm and inviting and the feel of the rooms is welcoming - in fact its hard to imagine it as a... More

We stayed at Casa Da Calcada in April. We had booked it at a very special cheaper rate as it was low season. We were looked after extremely well. We had a lot of space from the classic historical bedroom with a large en suite bathroom complete with robes and slippers. We liked the mini walk in wardrobe and the... More

What a great small hotel. Very well run with excellent, friendly service. Restaurant is what you would expect from a Michelin star, only observation is that the menu could get a little repetitious if you stay for more than two or three nights. Don't forget to try the white wine from their own vineyard which is a bargain. Location in... More

I was a little disappointed with this hotel. I expected a really luxurious hotel but I think it lacked some of the finer touches. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful but compared to other Relais & Chateaux hotels it seemed to lack any special extras. I found the bed very hard and actually had a sore back for... This hotel is a rare breed. It works around the customer, rather than the other way around. The restaurant and bar staff are friendly and pleasant. Room cleaning is done well and with minimum fuss. Room service actually brings what they say they will. And on top of all that it is comfortable, nicely decorated and the food in the... More

My husband and I stayed in this unique hotel in October. Driving on narrow cobblestone streets it is easy to miss the turn into the hotels drive. It is a sharp turn off the main drive. The room was a bit dark and we did not have a view but it was comfortable, but not as spectacular as others may... More

I had the most incredible one night stay here. I can't say enough about this hotel. The service is impeccable, the location is incredible. I booked the least expensive room, which was very reasonably priced for the accommodations, and I still had a fantastic view of the river, the historic bridge, and the church. My room was enormous, including a... More

Recently returned from this hotel, traveling in October. By far one of my favorite hotels during my trip to Portugal. The location is superb, next to the famous church, with great scenery of an old town. The rooms are quite comfortable and the hotel is charming. Their claim to fame is also a gourmet restaurant into which many locals flock... More

We spent one night in this luxurious hotel. We received a luxurious room with a gigantic terrace and superb view over the river and cathedral of Amarante. The Michelin-starred restaurant was outstanding and all the staff friendly, efficient with a "can do " attitude. Many thanks, we will remember fondly our stay More
