You will get a rare glimpse into the past and feel like you are part of history when you are a guest at Clonalis House. Set away from the normal Irish tourist routes in County Roscommon you will find an extraordinary house in a bucolic setting. This is an opportunity to experience Ireland's answer to 'Downton Abbey'. The furnishings of... More

Echoing what another reviewer has said, I am torn between writing the glowing review which this hidden gem of a bed and breakfast deserves, and wanting to keep it a secret so the rest of the world doesn’t find out about it! As a lover of all things historical, staying at Clonalis House was a truly incredible experience. The grandeur... More

Occasionally bus tours stop here, but we didn't stay overnight. This property is billed as "ancestral home of the O'Connors, descendants of the last High Kings of Ireland". The coronation stone is outside. The house itself is late 1800's Victorian style, replacing the original castle. Hostess was wife of present owner. No pictures were allowed inside. The house does have... More

We recently spent a week in the Garden Cottage at Clonalis. We chose it as a base to catch up with family in Roscommon and Mayo and also to do some sightseeing in the area. The cottage was spacious, clean, well equipped and above all homely. Compared to other properties we have rented in Ireland we thought it represented very... More

My husband and I spent an amazing night in Clonalis as a special treat. We were well impressed and appreciated the authenticity and old world grandeur of the castle. Steeped in history - the castle has its own museum!! We were welcomed by the owners - who brought 'night caps' (alcoholic of course - not literally!) to us n the... More

We recently stayed in the Garden and Orchard cottages as we were a group of 12 Americans revisiting our roots in Ballykilcline. The cottages were very comfortable, well equipped and just as shown in the pictures on their website. The view over the old walled garden was so serene, the grounds (as everyone says are wonderful) but what really make... More

For the price of a night in a mediocre hotel in NYC, we were utterly transported by our stay at the Clonalis House. So much history. So many stories. Incredible furniture, artwork, woodwork. A jaw dropping library. Beautiful sprawling grounds. And yet instead of feeling like sleeping in a museum, it felt like a home. There are current magazines mixed... More

Words can not describe how wonderful our experience at this historic country manor was for my family. First and foremost the hosts, Piers and Marguerite O'Conor Nash, are charming, warm, and go above and beyond to guarantee every guest has the perfect visit.. From the warm welcome, Piers' great guided tour of this living historic museum/home, Marguerite's excellent breakfasts, to... More

Our stay at Clonalis House was the height of our 8 day vacation in Ireland. Marguerite and Pyers were welcoming and charming hosts throughout our 2 night stay. Marguerite is a gifted chef and baker. Our breakfasts were made to order with homemade brown bread and other pastries. We ate dinner one evening in the formal dining room and were... More

I travel a lot, and stay in hotels all over Europe and elsewhere, but none compares to this gem that is almost on my doorstep. I have visited the house several times to take in the tour, but never stayed there before now. A few days ago I put that right when I arranged to stop over for a bed... More
