We enjoyed the hostel for it's cosy common room and basic amenities. The place needs a good clean though and A LOT of rubbish thrown away. We had a good experience staying there and enjoyed the breakfast...get there early though, otherwise you might not get a boiled egg! I would definitely suggest this place to some of my friends, but... More

Good location, just behind the Connemara National Park. Uncommon place with many things like in a bric-a-brac shop which give some charm to the place. BUT the owners were just cold, terrible, strict and at the end not welcoming at all... Fortunately, we just camped and so, we didn't need to be a lot in contact with them except for... More

This is my first critique on trip advisor. We had a splendid time in Ireland and stayed at lovely B&B's, campsites and hostels. We camped at the old monastery hostel for 2 nights, because it was listed in the LP Hiking Guide. Me and my boyfriend are from Amsterdam and we hang out in squats and alternative spaces in Amsterdam... More

That was the worst hostel I've been so far!!! The location and decoration might be good, but the condition of the hostel is poor. It's very dirty and it stinks. They do composting, what I generally like, but because they don't cover it (outside AND in the kitchen) it's full of these little flies! The signal of the Wifi is... More

The owners are terrible. Go at your own risk. I wished I had read some prior reviews first. The owner was verbally abusive. I have been in Ireland 2 months and the people have always been lovely but not them. Wifi also doesn't work took well if you are crazy enough to stay here.

Stayed in this hostel as it was recommended. Regretted that I had to pay for such a bad experience. Like many of the other bad reviews I concur: The place stinks. It's filthy and damp and run by two dissatisfied people that felt it necessary to take out their own shortcomings on their guests. Myself and my partner stayed for... More

After staying the night in a cold, smelly, dark, dank basement room I was assaulted for using an extra duvet from another bed in the room. A 20/30 minute tirade ensued... the two owners shouting at us BTW...It was absolutely bizzare not one bit 'charming or quirky'. I am well travelled and I have never been treated in such a... More

We went there to visit the connemara national park, this hostel is very well located, just on the edge of the park. The rooms are good, the staff is a little bit cold and you have to hurry up if you want to eat. Only irish dish for the breakfast. Shower cold and without lock.

We were a couple looking for a place to stay during our four-day trip in Connemara The place is in a beautiful location, has lovely atmosphere and the owner is very helpful and generous. However, if you are planning a long stay trip or family vacations, it might not be a suitable place. We traveled in mid March and the... More

On one hand the hostel is in a superb location and the building clearly has plenty of character, the fireplace in the sitting room is amazing and a work of cultural significance in inself, on the other hand certain customers may expect a level of cleanliness, hygiene and comfort which I felt this hostel fails to deliver: layers of dust...
