We stayed here for 3 nights for my husband's birthday at the end of January, beginning of February. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a huge bed, we slept really well Breakfast every morning was good, the choice at the weekend was definitely more varied but overall tasty and plentiful. We ate in the bar on 2 nights... More

Was visiting some of my crafty friends which the shearwater was hosting as they free in the numbers for a Christmas craft fair. Although some of the areas where a bit underlit for the crafters the staff where excellent and very accommodating, so I alighted to the bar to watch a match and found the hospitality very welcoming and the... I travelled to Ballinasloe as part of a group at the end of January for a weekend of meetings. The hotel is lovely, all brand new & well kept. Included in the package was a "Fine Dining Meal" on the Saturday night. There were approx. 40 of us in a group. The food was cold & the service was terrible.... More

We called in here, for a snack and a break, while driving from Dublin to Galway last September. It was an oddly cavernous and quiet place; seemed well kept but was huge and not many guests (or staff) around. The food we got in their bar area was just okay really; it took quite a while to arrive and tasted... More

Checked in for a one night room only stay. We have stayed here a few times and can't fault the hotel. Check in was pleasant and informative. Everything we needed to know was explained. We used the leisure facilities attached to the hotel which is free when you stay. The pool, sauna and steam room are very good. The rooms... More

Checked into this hotel recently. I arrived late in the evening having travelled throughout the day. The welcome I received from the receptionist (Claudia?) was less than warm....very disinterested and not very hospitable at all. Upon receipt of my room key, no mention of dinner options, bar or restaurant times or details about breakfast location were offered..... Room itself was... More

We're a family of 2 adults and 4 children age 14-5 so it's always a challenge finding affordable & comfortable accommodation in hotels. We were looking for an overnight stay in Athlone but couldn't find anything suitable then found the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe - only 20 mins away and has a pool. We had a family suite - 2... Ballinasloe is a small, rural Irish town, and the Shearwater Hotel looks like it belongs in a much larger town, or even a city. I have no idea why it was built there, but it would certainly be capable of hosting a big conference or wedding. I was just there on my own for one night, and found it fulfilled... More

Great hotel as a travelling base or for a bit of R&R. 5 minutes walk to local restaurants and Bars. Plenty of quality entertainment in the hotel and town. Check out Hugh and staff in The An Tain Bar or the Dunloe Bar. Lots of entertainment in both Bars as there is in other bars too. Approx 45 mins drive... More

We stayed at this hotel with our two kids for a wedding. The room was clean but on arrival at 4.30 wasn't ready despite it saying check in from 4pm on their website. I cant fault the food or presentation for food at the wedding and the selection of food the following morning was excellent and everything was fresh. There... More
