I visited Glenlohane in the hopes of experiencing the charm and beauty of Ireland's gorgeous landscape and old manor houses. Our stay was more than amazing and if you have time to travel to Kanturk to visit Melanie, Gordon and Desmond, it will be well worth it. The breakfast was to die for with Melanie's home-made bread welcoming you in... More

Glenlohane is tucked away off the tourist trail but if you take the time to seek it out you will not be disappointed. As others have said, the house oozes history from it's every pore. Built in the 1740s you feel you can really step back in time while, at the same moment, enjoy modern home comforts like good showers... More

That is Desmond Sharp-Bolster's motto. What a wonderful place! From the moment you enter the driveway, you know you are in for a treat. Greeted by a friendly Jack Russell, named Zippy, we stopped to gaze at the bucolic landscape that surrounds this old manor house: fields of grain, ancient trees, a handy croquet court, horses- all that is special... A house full of history with hosts full of knowledge of that and broader events - this is a place for a most relaxing and informative stay. We visited with friends who asked about local clans and got an entertaining verbal canvas painted by Desmond. He, along with Melanie and Gordon, are gracious hosts and we were privileged to share... If you're looking for a typical B&B, keep looking, Glenlohane is anything but typical. From the roast leg of lamb for dinner, to Gordon making arrangements to have a classic 1970 MG delivered to drive for a day on the roads around Kanturk, there is nothing typical about this country home that Desmond, Melanie, and Gordon have opened up for... I found this property on Hidden Ireland Historic Private Houses and what a find it is. This is country living at its finest. Desmond, Melanie and Gordon have opened their ancestral home to paying guests and we benefit from this decision. The home is beautifully maintained, well built, and surrounded by many acres of open land. As you enter the... More

My husband and I have had the luxury of staying here multiple times on our trips to Ireland. As Glenlohane House is a member of Hidden Ireland, we can be assured of the utmost in a gracious home but it extends far beyond that at Glenlohane. The hosts, Melanie, Desmond and adult son Gordon make your stay beyond beyond gracious.... More

Do hope that the weather in the Northeast of America will cut you a break as it looks like we are finally getting some nice weather here. My bikes are in bits at the moment but I just need to sit with them to make them shine and purr. Thank you for your most gracious note and as we are... More

We took a family golf trip to Ireland from the heat and deserts of Bahrain and started our journey out in Kanturk. While Kanturk might not be on the typical golfing vacation starting points – it was delightful. We played a couple of parkland golf courses that prepared us for the seaside links to come. But to stay at Glenlohane... More

I do hope that desert life is treating you all well. We got the wettest weather in, I think, 68 years and with a dashing of hurricanes to round things out, do you need some water? Thankfully our huge swaths of crocus and daffodil are out in full swing with more color than we have had in years. And we... More

My adult children and I stayed 3 nights in early July and were absolutely delighted with our time here. We wanted to be in the country and yet in good driving distance of Cork, Blarney and the west coast. That is exactly what we found, but we hadn't expected such a lovely house full of history, beautiful family heirlooms and... More

I do hope that things on the home front are well. Thank you by the way for your most kind note and as I am just learning how best to work my way through TripAdvisor, I am now only just getting a thank you off to you. Mom and Dad are well and send their regards, as do I! Cheers,... More

Glenlohane located down a beautiful country road was worth the trip to Kanturk. If you want to experience real county living it is the place to go. Melanie, Desmond and Gordon made us truly welcome and part of the family. It is a must place to stay in North Cork. Make sure you see the horses they are beautiful!. Melanie... More

Thank you for your gracious note and sorry for my untimely response. We took a serious beating with the roof of just about every building and trees went down that would even make His Lordship weep - we all did. A lot I might add. On the motorcycling note, we have added a Motorcycle Touring page and do hope to... More
