This location gives you the feel for the terrain in Iceland, isolation, rough roads and clearly the need for gps in cars. The hotel looks very nice and the staff great. We stopped for breakfast having arrived at 5 in the morning at the airport. We slowly made our way to Reykjavik after eating. The meal was buffet and had... More

I love Iceland! The wild and breathtaking nature, the fantastic people, even the surprisingly good food. And I was really looking forward to stay the the ION HOTEL. What did I expect? Finally a cool, contemporary, design hotel in Iceland, nestled in it's awesome landscape - that's what I thought. I guess that is what they had in mind when... More

We decided to have a four day break in Iceland and wanted to stay outside of the city so booked the Ion. Its a lovely hotel which is just far enough out of town but close up enough to drive to the city if wanting to. We hired a car at the airport and then drove which took around 50... More

We're sorry to say, we were very disappointed with our stay att ION. We had such high expectations due to the beautiful pictures on their website. Sadly there was nothing luxury about this hotel except for the name... The pool- and spa area was very cold, the rooms were small and not luxary at all and the service in general... More

What a delight to stay at Ion - firstly it isn't easy to find as it us 14k off the main roads and the road from Vik took us on an untarred road with spectacular views. We got a warm welcome and got our bags to our room early which gave us the whole afternoon to travel to Gulfoss, Getsir... More

ION is certainly a stunning hotel from outside and is located close (but not close enough for a decent view of it) to the beautiful Lake Thingvellir (English spelling). It's an interesting but remote location also being close to a geothermal power station which is disappointingly not open for viewings. Our room was pleasant with a decent shower room, good... More

ION hotel is a beautifully executed modern luxury hotel nestled into a volcanic hillside a short distance from Lake Thingvallavatn, Iceland's spectacular, so blue you can't believe it, glacier fed lake which happens to be its largest lake. The restaurant is beautiful and well served by its staff and chef, the rooms are clean, modern and comfortable, if not overly... More

This was our 2nd trip to Iceland and 2nd visit to The Ion Hotel - still love it! It's easy to turn off and relax in the clean, well sized rooms and bar - what a bar! This time we visited in May, so we knew we wouldn't see the Northern Lights, but just to sit in that bar and... More

Breakfast was very good, beds were excellent and the wifi was good. Even the restaurant was good - but not worth the money. The spa was very overrated and the whole experience was a bit of a disappointment. The location is far off but just next to a thermal power plant...

I'm always on the lookout for interesting design hotels, and with the 'eco' tag, this one seemed right up our alley. We spent 5 days in Iceland, and one night here as a luxury indulgence. The hotel is a cool design, I'll give it that, the location was striking and we enjoyed the mini sauna & geothermal bathtub, but that... More
