Not a luxury hotel, but close to luxury prices. Staff was friendly but quite green and young.. I don't think I saw a manager or anyone over 25. We came to see the lights and they didn't comply, but that's really the only reason to stay here, One night on the way to elsewhere would have been great. Only one... More

Me and my partner stayed in the ion for one night back in November 2014. Although we were only there passing through therefor can not say in relation to those staying there and using them for activities we had a amazing stay. This said for us it was a great location to go and explore the Thingvellir park and get on... Stayed here in mid March. The hotel is the refurbished lodging complex for the workers of the hot water generation station 309 meters away. Rooms are ok, decent fittings and luxury linens. Restaurant for dinner is just pretentious nonsense. There were 8 'tapas style' dishes of which one they had run out of. Who wants tapas for dinner? It took... More

We didn't stay at the ION, but we did meet friends for dinner there. After a number of extraordinary and surprising meals in Iceland, we were anxious to try the ION "tapas-type" menu. It was a disappointment on many levels. First, having 4 people at the table, we should have been warned that many of the dishes come with only... More

Stayed for one night. The place is seriously out of the way, but can be misleading with its' vistas as it is quite close to a power station. One side of the building looks onto it some 500metres away. Request a non facing room. The bar is open with great windows for appreciating the northern lights if they are out.... More

This is a very unusual spot, elegantly modern and a bit out of the way. It was really cold and snowy during our visit but if was a bit warmer it would be great to hike around the hotel. We really loved the northern lights bar and the cocktails were great but despite its name, you can't see the lights... More

What a find this hotel is. In the middle of nowhere and here is this modern, brilliantly designed hotel. Looks unusual from outside but inside it is fab. The Northern Lights bar has such great views. We had a deluxe room overlooking the park and the floor to ceiling windows were perfect to just gaze at the view. The weather... More

This is an interesting hotel, but be sure to go with the correct expectations and at a suitable time of year. I would not describe this hotel as a luxury hotel rather a conference hotel, in that the rooms are very simple but adequate. The restaurant is also quite simple for breakfast and lunch service but served good and adventurous... More

I picked this hotel based on the premise it would offer great personalized service, and great amenities. Was disappointed on both counts for the following reasons: - Service: Do not answer e-mails: Prior to arrival, I e-mail to request some information on the activities listed on their website. These e-mails went unanswered.. (I had also had this same problem, of... More

There isn't much around the hotel- a lot of snow and ice, a lake to track around, a road, more snow and more ice. We were there for almost 2 days, and experienced so much- a boutique hotel with design rooms, a bar with an amazing view, young and friendly staff, a quick (but surprisingly tasty) lunch and a dinner...
