We stayed at the ion as one of of highlights. But to be honest the rooms were far away from "Design" and they are really small. The bathroom had old partly greasy tiles and the vent could not be turned of, which was annoying and not very sustainable ( the ion always tries to point out how sustainable everything is).... More

This hotel is pretty much what you see in the photographs, from the outside, to the inside. It really is set in the middle of no where so if you're looking for a quiet retreat amidst the great outdoors, it really doesn't get better than this. There are many marked hiking trails all around the hotel, ranging from 20 minute... More

Don't get me wrong. This is a nice hotel. But certainly, from a UK perspective this hotel is lacking in elements that would justify using the word luxury in its title. We stated for two nights at the end of a 12 day tour of Iceland, fully aware of the different levels of accommodation across the country. I was expecting... More

Away from everything, but at the same time pretty close on Reykjavik (1 hour) Great deluxe rooms. I peaked at a Classic room to, not much of a difference, except for some design and older room. Same size, same view. Great food in the restaurant, bar & pool is fab. A bit on the expensive side but definately worth a... More

We stayed at the Ion at the end of a Backroads hiking trip in southeast Iceland. It is located next to lake Pingvallavatn (one of the top five scuba diving sites in the world) on the site of Iceland's largest geothermal power plant. The hotel is a modern renovation of the workers lodgings for the geothermal plant build. The rooms... More

We stayed here two nights at the beginning of September. Overall, this hotel was nice and could be easily improved to four stars with a few changes. Rooms: Rooms are small but nicely appointed. We had a Deluxe room, which wasn't noticeably different than a regular room other than the floor to ceiling windows. We had the lake-side view, not... More

Interesting building, nice design overall. Quite like the guest room and use of concrete as part of the aesthetic. Hot tub was a welcome treat on what was a cold day, and hot tub area is very nicely designed from an aesthetic perspective. However, the adjacent sauna was too small, and remained dominated by some rather loud Russians. Restaurant was... More

A gorgeous drive from Reykjavik, ION Hotel is set on a vast tundra-like plain. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived early afternoon. When asked, hotel staff directed us to the hiking trails that start behind the hotel. Initially well-marked, the trail took us up above the geothermal plant which had a slightly Silkwood feel. Behind us were beautiful views... More

We spent a week at this hotel in room 209 and while we enjoyed our trip the experience was inconsistent. The location is very unique with the hotel set on rocks that would make any Sci-fi fan feel right at home. To the one side you have a lovely horizon, but on the other a geo thermal plant. It's not... We spent 2 nights at the hotel, located in the middle of nowhere - we loved it! We booked a superior room for additional comfort and enjoyed it. The food served both for breakfast and for dinner was of very high quality and the staff was very friendly. We had booked a massage, which (while being on the expensive side)... More
