On my way to Ion, I realized it would be no ordinary stay. The hotel is literally in the middle of nature. I wouldn't really say "in the middle of nowhere" because the surroundings are sooo nice. My bedroom was very comfortable and also looked great - the horse poster is fantastic. The hotel was crowded but it did not... More

Firstly this is not really a luxury hotel despite having a funky design renovation and a cool bar. Start with the positives - location: easy access to the Golden Circle and fairly remote and quiet. Breakfast - good buffet, although some fresh fruit would have been welcome. Very comfortable beds. The negatives - location: right next to a power station... More

Luxury hotel in a very convenient location to explore the Golden Circle and do some outdoor activities (hiking, rafting, etc.). It has a fine restaurant, but as it is in the middle of nowhere, there is no real alternative for dinner, so you can end up a little bored of seeing the same menu every day. Breakfast options are also... More

Here, is the story. Ignore the photos on the website. The setting ok but only if you do not get the power plant site. Trying to be botiqey and hip but rooms are tiny, setting is just ok, staff is friendly. It is sooooo disappointing. Narrow dark hallways leading to cell-sized room. Quiet as long as no on is in... We chose to stay at the Ion Luxury Hotel mainly because of the modern design and the alternative of staying in the middle of the beautiful Icelandic landscape. We have to say that we were very disappointed when we reached the hotel to see that it was just located 300m from a factory power plant, which was never mentioned or... More

This hotel should be advertised as a 2 star hotel. Take an old workers accommodation block for the thermal electricity plant next door and add a glass fronted bar on the front. Do not update tired, old and very dirty bathrooms. Charge extravagant prices for accommodation and food, (the food is low class with ordinary cheap meat cuts). Photograph the... More

We decided to explore the island a bit and we stayed one night at the Ion . It's a 4 stars+. Ask for room 219! The staff is great , spa is small but so nice. The pool and the views are just amazing. The room was so nice and for that price ( compared to Reykjavik prices ) it's... More

Only a half hour or so from the capital area with its great restaurant and relaxing spa ION was a great treat for me and my wife on our little get away from the kids. Super friendly staff who clearly know what they are doing as we had some pretty complex questions about the outdoor activities in the area. Overall... More

I simply have to echo other peoples reviews. This is an amazing luxury hotel in the middle of nowhere, yet you can't help but wonder about certain things that could have been done slightly differently. Thanks to trip advisor, we requested a room not facing the geothermal power plant. As someone said, why would these two buildings be so close...... More

This location gives you the feel for the terrain in Iceland, isolation, rough roads and clearly the need for gps in cars. The hotel looks very nice and the staff great. We stopped for breakfast having arrived at 5 in the morning at the airport. We slowly made our way to Reykjavik after eating. The meal was buffet and had... More
