We stayed in the Ion for 3 days and had an amazing time. It's remote, so don't expect to be visiting local attractions without a journey, but the hotel team are very accommodating and arranged pick ups and transfers for us to the dive site and to travel along the coast to the glaciers for a glacier hike. We did... More

Great place to stay away from the city. The staffs are fantastic and very helpful. You will want to come back to the spa over & over. The view is to die for. The food is delicious. The only improvement will be the shower drain needs to have quicker flow

I love luxury. And I love adventure. And I wanted to see the Northern Lights. So the Ion Hotel seemed like the perfect choice. That was until our rental car was stopped dead in almost 3 feet of snow on the road to the hotel. The hotel will provide transport from the airport, but we were already staying in Reykjavik... More

Tucked away on the border of Pingavalaten lake is an ultra-modern hotel in a stunning isolated location. Friendly staff, top notch food and comfortable rooms (if a tad small). Northern Lights bar is a great place to relax and take in the surrounding views (in our case a frozen lake and snow covered mountains). Only 40k from Reykjavik - probably... More

We have just returned from 3 nights at the Ion. I was slightly nervous after booking because of the mixed reviews here but we were not disappointed. The location is amazing at this time of year - a snowy wilderness peppered with mountains in the distance and a frozen lake in the foreground. Getting there in winter takes a lot... More

Pretty unique place. The outdoor hot pool allows you to sit outside surrounded by snow and mountains. Great location to view the northern lights! Really neat interior. The northern lights bar is an amazing place to work, or hang out and have a drink and surrounded by glass with a stunning view. Make sure you have a rental car and... More

I’ve read the recent reviews and really, it seems that many guests feel the hotel and the experience doesn’t quite live up to expectation; an opportunity missed as it were. In some ways, they are right but in many ways they are not. If you just want the executive fast-reading summary to the question whether you should put the ION... More

It certainly is an interesting design, bit like a giant insect crawling round a snow filled valley, (ignore the power plant). If you go in winter make sure your car is 4x4 with snow tyres! Loved the outdoor pool, big enough to chat to fellow travellers and exchange holiday experiences and advice. Food was the usual limited choice, beautifully presented,... More

Stayed at the Ion for 2 nights as part of a company group. The front desk staff are the key strength here; very helpful at all times they really try to keep you smiling. The hotel itself follows minimalist principles: rooms are simple with wooden floors; wardrobes but not a drawer in sight; two separate seats [a box and a... More

There is no doubt that the Ion has the potential to be not only a great base for Icelands national park and surrounding area but a great place to stay in itself. However in the pursuit of style (which it certainly has) it fell short in some of the basics in luxury hospitality. As an architect involved in the design... More
