I'm always on the lookout for interesting design hotels, and with the 'eco' tag, this one seemed right up our alley. We spent 5 days in Iceland, and one night here as a luxury indulgence. The hotel is a cool design, I'll give it that, the location was striking and we enjoyed the mini sauna & geothermal bathtub, but that... More

Huge disappointment! It starts from the staff being not very attentive, arrogant, not to be found when you want to check out and charging you wrong bills (they wanted to sell the overpriced dinner twice and after making them aware of it the bill was in the end still wrong). Disappointing view: you have on one side of the hotel... More

We stayed at Ion for three nights. Our room was fine with a beautiful view into the lake (had been forewarned about fact that some rooms gave onto less romantic thermal power station which has its own kind of stark beauty. We did a magnificent trek around the area taking it hot springs, hot waterfall (!) and superb views -... More

Preface: the location of the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, which is exactly what attracted us, after a stay in the city; great starting point for excursions. So once one is there, esp. in the evening, count on staying in. This would not have been a problem if the facilities, food and service were satisfactory. Upon arrival, nobody... More

I love the hotel - the location, architecture, structure, grounds and activities are winners. My stay was, unfortunately, preceded by getting stuck in ice on the way to the hotel, dubbed the 'summer road.' Upon getting stuck, I called the hotel and they advised to take the alternate route, as the 'summer road' is closed until May. The staff advised... More

Had high hopes for this one. Video on the website looks so good. But was underwhelmed. The service was almost non-existent. The staff seemed always too busy doing nothing to bother looking after the guests. The "hot tub" was more like a tepid bath and sadly one of the main reasons to book here after a dive in the Silfra... More

Billed as Luxury Adventure, it is to note that you need to add on the adventure as services, if you desire them. The luxury should be thought of as remote national park rugged luxury, with European sensibilities in room sizes and design. The dining is exceptional but the seasonal and rarely changing menu might challenge some, but if you look... More

Great hotel. Really interesting location. The food it pretty good and reasonable considering it's a captive market. Sadly the sauna wasn't working when we stayed and there was a bit of a wait to get into our room but otherwise the facilities were great.

ION get mixed reviews and I think the name confuses people. It's not luxury but it is definitely boutique. It's certainly an adventure getting there. We arrived early and they agreed to help us check in as soon as they could. We had a drink in the bar and our room cards were delivered to us and our bags were... More

The Ion hotel certainly has a wonderful feel and the location is second to none. The views are amazing and the bar and the hot tub are quite spectacular. Unfortunately, as their own visitor book suggests, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Having asked reception to give us a wake up call if the northern lights were visible... More
