My wife and I really enjoyed Hotel Selfoss. It has a foyer like a meccano set - the elevator mechanism on full display in front of you - and it instantly feels different. In a good way. The rooms were spacious and comfortable (great bed) and the bar and restaurant perfect for an early evening drink, followed by a meal.... More

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights whilst accompanying a school group. Check in was efficiently managed, despite the size of our party. We were fortunate that we were all roomed in the renovated side of the hotel, so all rooms were clean and modern. Rooming is often a source of difficulty when travelling with school groups, and Hotel... More

Dear welshlady85, Thank you for taking your time to review Hotel Selfoss, It is true that it is often hard to mix different groups of guests in a hotel. School groups are not the hardest to mix with regular tourist groups and we welcome school groups. Usually teenagers are very polite and do mix well with other tourists. Therefore we... More

Easter weekend, Iceland is packed with tourists yet some hotels are just not prepared. The check in was the quickest in my life, I just said we have a reservation under Mrs S. and without a good afternoon or any other check we had a key. We had to ask which way was the room as the lady didn't seem... More

Hi FabBordS, Thank you for taking your time to review Hotel Selfoss. I am very sorry for your experience while staying here. As you can clearly understand this is not up to our standards. On our staff meeting I will use your letter as an example of how not to do things. I hope you liked the rest of your... More

What a lovely hotel to stay in while doing some tours in the south of the island. Beautiful reception area on arrival and rooms very pleasant with river view being a bonus. Four of us travelling together and it has to be said that the room in the newer part of the hotel was by far the nicest - with... More

We stayed here for one night on our trip to the Eastern and Southern part of Iceland. The location of the hotel is right in the middle of the city, as Selfoss is a small town. We loved the ambiance of the hotel. We loved the decorative water wall just beside the main entrance. We even took it as an... More

On first walking down the passageway to the bedrooms, there is a not very nice smell. We later realised that it is the sulphide smell of the water .... and it does smell very strong when you are having a shower! Obviously, this is not the hotel's fault, it is a natural phenomenom of the area. The room we had... More

Hi CAEWALES, Thank you for writing a review about hotel Selfoss. I am glad you liked staying here. You are right, the sulphide smell of the hot water is not something we can do much about. The smell of sulphide means you are getting the hot water straight from the ground. I am sorry for you getting a small towel... More

We stayed 2 nights here, the rooms were large and well equipped and warm and comfortable. The staff helpful, and we ate in the restaurant one evening and had an excellent meal for a fair price. All in all a pleasant stay.

My room in the hotel Selfoss, which is a large hotel, was very spacious and with a great view over the bridge and the church nearby. The bathroom was okay, with not many toiletries available (just soap and shampoo) and old looking towels, albeit clean. Generally, the interior looks a little tired and in need of modernization. The restaurant offers... More

Located in a small town on a river. Hotel has spa facilities which, if not crowded would be relaxing. However literature infers there is a swimming pool, but this is not in the hotel. Room we stayed in (324) had a beautiful views of the church, river and mountains. Room 324 had a 4 poster bed, large room, plenty of... More

Hi Kim163, Thank you for taking your time to write a review about our hotel. I am glad you liked your stay in Hotel Selfoss. Yes the spa can be a bit crowded from time to time so by selecting an "off" time often gives you the privacy you want. But as you say, the swimming pool is only 5... More
