In the context of rough, wild and often wet Iceland, Icelandair Hotel Klaustur provides an oasis of basic comforts for weary travelers. Located in south Iceland, between the well-known Skaftafell National Park and, closer to Reykjavik, Vik, the hotel anchors the farming village of Kirkjubaerklaustur. This village is sustained, partially, by the folks passing through to other points. But the... More

Basic yes, but no hot water and the reason is because 30 guests all showered around the same time. This is a hotel isn't it. Over priced with simple plain food in Resturant. Seek out others in the area.

Just because they are a chain of Icelandair hotels, they are not all the same. The day we arrived it was very windy and raining. Traveling as a group thought we'd all stay in the same wing but nope, worked out fine though. The rooms are compact although sufficient room for moving about and they were clean and comfortable. I... We stayed in one night on our way through to the east. We were the only guests that night which felt a bit strange. The receptionist commutes all the way from Hofn! Room adequate but small. Breakfast was very good - wide choice and high standard. Whilst at the hotel, do visit the double waterfall down the road and climb... More

clean rooms and bathrooms and a good spot to stay visiting the iceberg lake. there were only 4 or 5 rooms occupied when we were there with 8 people but that caused trouble enough. We couldn't have dinner at 7.30 because it was "full". Arriving at 8 only 2 other tables where in use. So I wonder what will happen... More

This hotel is on the edge of a vast expanse of lava fields about 100 km west of Skaftafell and associated glaciers. The lava fields and glacier rivers are geologically interesting but they do stretch the whole 100km looking a lot like a moonscape. The small town with a long name that the hotel is in, Kirkjubaejarklaustur, is on a... More

We stayed in the hotel for one night as we did a 2 day trip along the south coast of Iceland starting from Reykjavik and it was a convenient place to stop off. We were staying in the Icelandair Marina Hotel in Reykjavik which was nicer and had more atmosphere. I realise that we visited in March and there weren't... More

The 4 of us stayed for 3 nights in the Icelandair Hotel Klaustur and it was unforgettable. The service, the room and the food was excellent - we had breakfast and dinner daily in the hotel restaurant. One day the hotel manager and local guides organized a day trip for us which included visiting locals and hiking around the craters... More

Stayed for 2 nights and was initially supposed to stay 3. Luckily we decided not to and headed back to Reykjavik instead. The service was great as the people were very nice but the area doesn't have much to offer (unless you really like be quiet and peaceful nature). There is a public pool but you had to pay and... We stayed here for 2 nights off-season and were quietly impressed by the service we received,. During low season, one might expect to see a dip in quality, but Klaustur is professionally run by a team who obviously delight in good service. The room was comfortable and spotless, with a sizeable bathroom and excellent power-shower, essential for blasting away the... More
