We stayed in a newer suite 9 Monos which was great! It was super spacious, bright and full of beautiful art pieces and antiques. All staff members always had a smile on their faces no matter what request you have and we felt lucky to hear the girls in the kitchen giggling downstairs as we ate our breakfast. Lush is... More

We had a wonderful time at Lush (formerly Hotel Aaculaax), the owners changed the name to be easier on guests who could never figure out how to say Aaculaax (the owner’s name in the local mayan dialect). The staff was fantastic and went above and beyond to help us with everything (which we needed as we barely speak a word... More

This hotel is one of the most unique places I've ever been to. You don't know what to expect at first when you arrive as, at least for us, it was hard to see into the hotel grounds from the water. Once you get close and realize all the detail and beauty there is to take in you don't know... More

Nothing says it better than the reactions from my family. I loved it. One kid and my wife were ok with it. One kid hated it (bugs!). The rooms are thoughtfully and beautifully done up with reclaimed stuff. We stayed in four different rooms - Cascada I and II, Pescada, and Cueva, and each room was unique in design. The... More

Thank you for your comments and we are so sorry part of your family had a difficult stay. Hotel Aaculaax is built right into the rocks of the hillside and next to a nature reserve; being close to nature also means we have a few harmless critters. Being ecologically conscious we do not fumigate, i.e. poison our environment which goes... More

We spend 8 night at Lush hotel (current updated name for former Aaculaax) 2 nights at "Sirena" and 6 at "La Mirador". Both rooms were amazing. The Mirador is larger, with a huge open balcony overlooking the great views of the lake. The Sirena had indoor smaller balcony, but it was nice too. We didn't have any problem with the... More

Thank you for your comments. We always appreciate guest feedback. We are working on the pressure of the Mirador shower. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We have 2 receptionists who are at the hotel from 8am to 4pm daily and both speak very good Spanish. I am really surprised you were unable to communicate with them. They... More

Travelling for almost 20 years now, arround the globe, this location (room Mirador) has been one of my alltime-favourites, if not the most impressive at all. Waking up at 6am, watching the sun going up over Lake Atitlan straight from our bed was amazing. Stayed for 2n at the "Mirador" and then had to move to "Pescado" which was different,... More

This was a great hotel at a nice price with a nice location. We planned on staying there for one night but ended up staying for four. We would have stayed longer if we had more time, because we just loved it. (we are a young couple traveling for one year) Very nice rooms, we had a doubleroom with shared... More

As I write, my wife and I have just finished a fine breakfast on a sun-dappled patio at the San Marcos, Guatemala, inn formerly called Aaculaax and now for obscure reasons renamed LUSH. Whatever its name, it’s a marvelously eclectic and comfortable hideaway just a few steps from the Atitlan lake shore. Our room (one of the inn’s smaller choices)... More

Stayed here for 2 nights and was the best time we had in Guatemala. Ended up picking the Mirador and couldn't have been more pleased, if its available get it! Food, views, gardens all spectacular. Definitely go for an early morning walk or kayak.

Enjoyed both Pescado (great volcano/lake views from upper kitchen/den area) and Grenadia (lovely garden view room; amazing volcano stained glass). Peaceful stay in lush surroundings. Felt tucked away & safe. Breakfast was just right- fruit, granola, hard boiled eggs & divine, warm croissants with lots of coffee. Talking to Lily we learned about where to shop for Fair Trade in...
