Our stay at Monte Azul has set a new high standard for the most beautiful, lovely, and gracious accommodations we've ever experienced. Randy & Carlos have such impeccable taste, and have thought of EVERthing one needs for a relaxing, peaceful retreat into the Costa Rican cloud forrest. The perfectly appointed and private casitas, the hiking trails and waterfalls on the... More

If you are looking for a place to R&R for a few days in a beautiful setting and being pampered by excellent service and cuisine, this is the place. It was the highlight of our recent 2 week trip to CR. You can take hikes to waterfalls and countryside; don't miss getting a tour to the local cheesemaker, learn to... More

We spent four nights here at the beginning of our vacation in late December 2015. It was the perfect place to relax and decompress at the start of our trip. The casita that we stayed in was very nice, with original artwork on the walls. The food a Cafe Blue was spectacular. They had a nice balance of local and... More

Dear Kevin L, Thank you for choosing Monte Azul to celebrate your recent marriage! It was great having you here, and we are happy that you enjoyed your stay. You are completely right, this is not the place, nor the area for nightlife, with the exception of the sounds of nature every evening. It is however, a perfect place to... More

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights during New Year's. The place is wonderful, the casitas are quite big, well decorated with fine pieces of art, the beds are ok but could it be better in terms of comfort. We stayed at the green casita that has one of the biggest private patios were we took naps laying at... More

We had a truly amazing stay at Monte Azul. The owners have created a wonderful retreat in a secluded location. The service we received was excellent; everyone called us by name and all the staff were very friendly. We loved having a chef cook all of our meals. Esteban made delicious food for every meal; we felt very spoiled! We... More

Looking for relief from relentless New England winter storms we were eager to get away and delighted that Monte Azul had space for us for a week. We thought we were looking for warm weather. What we found was a magical paradise in the middle of the jungle. Off the beaten track, this is not for everyone. But if you're... More

The Monte Azul folks have truly created an earthly paradise. My recent stay there exceeded my already-high expectations -- for beauty, accommodations, food, the staff, extra services... you name it! The property is gorgeous in every way -- the casitas, the restaurant area, the artist's studio, the lush rainforest. We loved having conversations with the staff people Teo, Melissa and... More

This was my second trip to Monte Azul and I was fortunate enough to stay for a longer time! The Chirripo mountain range is pleasantly nearby some of the tourism centers south of San Jose such as Manuel Antonio, but it feels like a world apart. Monte Azul is a small, boutique resort nestled in an authentic community and rainforest. The animals here are not conditioned to the large groups of tourists that you will find elsewhere. Even so,...
